The staff was very friendly and helped us with booking tickets! They also came after us at the train station and took us back when we left. They also served us with complementary tea and coffee!

Amazing place. Really beautiful and very well located. The staff is very helpful and goes the extra mile. Apparently there are many activities organised by the hotel, that we did not know about. When you are there, make sure to inquire about these.

Mr Lee - the owner of the place had upgraded our booking to another of his property just few doors away from Courtyard Shangri-la. It is a much bigger and newer property - actually everything looked new. Mr Lee had given us a big penthouse with sitting and ensuite downstair and a big area on the upper floor with 2 queen beds, another sitting / TV area, a large writing table, huge bathtub, and another toilet. This room can in fact stay for at least 4 persons comfortably.
The property was clean, very comfortable and very quiet. It also feel secure and exclusive. Taxi or Didi can just reach up to the entrance of the property, so it is also very convenient in that sense.
Mr Lee has been very kind to offer to pick us up at the train station when we arrived and drop us off when we left with his nice big 4WD. We can also enjoy our coffee at Courtyard Shangri-la in the morning for free.
The property is a bit out of the busy area of Dukezong Ancient City but it is better as it is more peaceful with less people. It also has a very nice view to the Big Buddha Temple at Guishan Park in the Ancient Town (from the upper floor) - particularly when the lights are on, fantastic view!
Note that this IS NOT about Courtyard Shangri-la but another newer property of the same owner. Thanks to Mr Lee for his hospitality. If I ever return to Shangri-la City, I will certainly contact Mr Lee again.

Tavern hostel is just amazing, from the owners to the food to the location .
They speak a really good English and they give you all the informations you need! I booked with them the hike to Abuji Lake (was amazing ) and he booked for me the bus to Lijiang !
Loved the food there, I also tried a Korean dish and the best coffee I ever tried in China!
So highly recommended!!!!

The owner is super friendly, speaks good English and is incredibly welcoming and helpful with everything we needed. He can help you to figure out your plans in ShangriLa and knows the current conditions. The homestay is in a good area, easily accessible by didi, bike etc. Only a short walk to old town and surrounded by lots of shops, food and everything you need. It is a very social and inviting environment with a really nice, big common area with some games, a piano and bar area. We spent a lot of time talking and hanging out with the owner and other guests. Everyone was so fun! When we were there, there was also a beautiful dog who we loved! The room is spacious, has comfy beds and the paintings on the wall were very cute. Thank you and see you again another time :)

Lovely old Tibetan style guest house. Very cosy in winter. Fantastic friendly host Rose and her husband. Really went above and beyond for us. Good breakfast, good location.

The warmth and hospitality of the hosts was amazing. We arrived late, they made dinner for us and gave us fruit while dinner was being prepared. They told us of the attractions, travel time and gave a lift to the train station. The rooms were large and well equipped. The hosts made every effort to ensure we had a great stay.

Beautiful hotel overlooking entire shangri la ancient city. Staff service is exceptional, especially Lhamo, Daisy Zhao and Dragon! They are very helpful and friendly and shared some tips about where to go, and gave free upgrade of my room (birthday treat). The room is very comfortable, and able to request for firmer pillows.

SHANGRI LA is a must destination.
SHANGRI LA is a must destination. Actually Yunnan Province is a must. Every town is so beautiful and exotic.. a dream for the eyes and for the photographers! 3 days per town is a minimum, there is so much to see and the people are really friendly... We could have stayed a week in Shangri La alone, just to be able to explore the area more extensively. We'll definitively shall return!

Firstly this place is very much " designed" to attract tourism. If it is not for the unique temples , buildings and old villages of the Tibetian, their religion influence internal and to the community there which existed many decades ago, the Nepahai Plains, ShangriLa has not much to offer for tourist. Many business commercialise focuses on food and local delicacies.
There are not many heritage location or attractive places to visit. While good natural reserves like Pudacao National Park, a big part of it have been largely closed to visitors.
Quite disappointed .

My experience was of the old town mostly and two excursions one to a local monastery and the other to a national park Potatso about half hour away. The old town is pedestrian so that was good. People friendly. Plenty of food choices. Free join in dancing in town square at night. Streets clean.
Plenty of taxis to get around.
