The Richmond Parkhotel with more than 160 years history is located in a calm part of Karlovy Vary on the bank of the Tepla river and is surrounded by an English-style park. We got a lovely, big room with incredibly comfortable beds. The pool area is very clean and pleasant. The staff were all kind and attentive. Breakfast was enormous with a lot of variation. The hotel is situated near but still a little away from the crowds, in a beautiful park. We loved the hotel and actually added an extra night to our stay.

Welcoming family hotel with very friendly service, comfortable and spotlessly clean rooms in an extraordinary thoughtfully renovated historical building. The breakfast is very tasty and has all essential contents. What I liked in particular is the responsiveness of the hotel owners to individual requests, like restaurant bookings etc. It was just perfect. Apart from this, there is a number of convenient parking spaces available and the free W-Lan is speedy, too.

This a very good location to visit local restaurants, which are mostly within 15 min walking distance. There was also a Christmas fare almost right in front of the apartment. All the thermal water sources are within 10 min walk. There are plenty of local thermal spas very close. There is a big city park 15 min from the apartment. This park is perfect for hiking.
Classic (Habsburg Empire times) architecture's town-museum, unique in that sense. The old town is framed by mountains and forests, on the mountain river. Hot and warm springs are all around town. One can feel like his on a filming site, but everything is real. Excellent beer, good food, competitive prices, and hotel prices are absolute value for money. On the negative side, the town has a heavy Soviet times legacy, mostly in its specialization in attracting tourists from Russia. As a result, the Soviet Russian culture is dominating everywhere - from adverts, small and large - in Russian as the main foreign language around the town, to hotel and restaurant staff, always speaking Russian, in some cases -German, and far less often - English. I know that the town authorities tried to switch the main tourist origin from Russians to Germans of Russian origin after the start of Russian aggression on Ukraine. They partially succeeded, but unfortunately, it didn't change the atmosphere in a beautiful town much. You can still see Russian as the dominating language around with tons of loudly speaking, hardly talking people, some with bad manners, dominating in town. Probably, those with nostalgia for Soviet times, or who speak only Russian, will feel more comfortable here than in any other town in the EU, though.
I expected it to be my dream place for enjoying a spa experience, and at the end there was nothing available of that sort, maybe only in the very expensive hotels. Mine was a decent hotel, but did not have pool, and there were two public places that were not appealing at all. The town was nice, but most places close very early. I ate a decent meal at the popular Check restaurant in town(had to try at least once), nothing amazing, just ok.
Very cute little town - scenic with beautiful buildings. We only stayed one night and would loved to have been there longer to really explore. We ate at one of the beer brewery restuarants around the corner from our accommodation and the food was delicious.
The town is beautiful. There are ONLY TWO PUBLIC SPAS! Thermal Hotel (wish I highly recommend) and Elizabeth Spa. I spent two days trying to find the "Natural Hot Springs" to soak in. Finally, a man at a bar told me there are really only the two. Information Center - there are signs all over the town directing you to the Information Center. Finding it is another thing. There is ONLY ONE, just past Hotel PUPP. This is the ONLY PLACE YOU CAN BUY A REGION CARD! The staff at the information center were very nice and polite. Here's the BUT, they answered every question you asked. BUT, if you didn't know the right question to ask, the information was not offered. This led to MANY trips back to the information center. Region Card - not sure it's really worth it. First, there is not one place to sign up for any attractions (i.e. the underground, walking tours etc.). You have to call a number, which you need to ask for the brochure (see line above) that has the numbers. There is a two-day advance requirement to sign up for anything. For a short trip it just is to hard to do. If I come back, armed with this information, it will make the trip more enjoyable.
It is very easy to get around Karlovy Vary. We been walking 20-24 000 steps a day discovering everyday something new. We took all possible exursions and the one was more favorite was visiting Locket with perfect guide Yelena, she is terrifically good and knowlegebale with such a sense of humor ! Avoid restoran "Kolonada".The soup goulash in bread contained mostly pieces of potatoes and almost none of meat. The "vareniki"/dumplings with potato even don't try- they put them from the store pakage to boil and it taste so bad, sticky dough... In the end while we were asking the bill and waitress did not returned my change of 46 crowns because she saw that we could not eat anything beside borsh... Also my husband ordered the lamb steak with garlic sauce: he got so hard thin piece of fried ( and not grilled as annonced in the menu)meat with 2 small peices of garlic on it... Non tasty , no esthetically attractive- -"0" customer service . AVOID THIS PLACE in front of beautiful Colonada
