Carterton is a town, that as about half of the population either working on the airbase, or the area, it as 3 supermarkets and plenty of food takeaway and restaurants, and a couple of good pubs, but it is a town that caters for the airbase.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 8.0
A peaceful area.
A peaceful area. Although the hotel was going through a change in management and there was a strong presence of maintenance staff this didn't disturb our stay. The breakfast was lovely, and although the kitchen was closed for evening meals due to maintenance I'm sure it will a great place to have dinner. The room we stayed in was a good size and comfortable. There's plenty to see in the surrounding area, so a good place to base yourselfGuest review byHelenUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A very interesting historical village used as the location for some of the scenes in Downton Abbey. A trail can be bought from the library which doubled as the cottage hospital in Downton. The church is worth a visit.Guest review byLynneUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Visiting the pretty stone villages of Burford, Bibary, Broadway, Stow on the Wold and the Slaughters and lots of walks were the hallmark of our stay. We loved it. We particularly liked the Plough Inn near Carterton which we walked to from our property (The Rickyard) it was beautiful scenery en route - the hosts were brilliant and fitted us in when they had an event on. We also visited the Rose and Crown near to our accommodation who were also great and created a delicious veggie risotto for us at short notice! Carterton is OK but not the prettiest place - compared to some of the villages.Guest review byAnnaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
A beautiful picturesque place.
A beautiful picturesque place. Beautiful countryside and near to Carterton which has a fabulous local pub called The Beehive, where we had some food which was lovely. Also had cocktails in the local bar called Grapes and Tomatoes. Outstanding service, drinks and fabulous night out! We loved our stay at The Vines, the breakfast was second to none! By far the best breakfast I've ever had at a B&B. Fabulous friendly, welcoming staff and a lovely place to stay. I would definitely, without hesitation return when visiting the area again.Guest review byClarke - 8.0

Great if you're mobile and want to explore The Cotswolds, but the property is in the middle of a squaddie-town, so may not be what you're expecting. Having said that, it's extremely cosy, comfortable and well appointed, apart from the kitchen utensils and crockery!Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

If you like Downton Abbey, the TV program and the characters you have to go to Bampton. A very quaint village where the outdoor scenes were filmed. Near the library is a small museum all about Downton Abbey. The staff in there were very happy to share their experiences of the filming with you.Guest review byGrahamUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Plenty of local facilities - restaurants, wine bars - hairdressers galore! Good for evening walks in the parks and woodland, we saw plenty of takers - even in the rain! Brize Norton local and its military influence is obvious in the town - but wouldn't say it was a bad thing! Good home base area for visiting the Cotswolds various sights and locations. Enjoyed the visitGuest review byelk1001United Kingdom
