As mentioned in other reviews the lady who owned the guest house was amazing as was her family. I arrived at 9am and was checked straight in after they finished cleaning the room ( 10mins) th lady exchanged Thai baht and gave much better rates than the bank or currency exchange. Gave me lifts to the embassy and border when returning to Thailand.. ok would strongly recommend this place. I will be staying again when I return to Laos.. absolutely fantastic place and family

We will definitely be back. This is a must stay when in Savanhakhet.

Ok the COVID scare did Savannaket no favors Many businesses were shut down and you can tell the hotels are doing it tough also The infrastructure is going to pieces It is a pity to see this but the Lao people are nice Easy to get around Savannaket but hard to get a good meal Most eating places are shut by 5

Mukdahan is a border town with Laos.
Mukdahan is a border town with Laos. There really isn't much to see there, and better experiences in Thailand can be found elsewhere. There is the Indochina market, which is a large wholesale market close to the river - however JJ Market in Bangkok is much better with cheaper prices. There's a few large temples, however other temples can be found elsewhere in Thailand. There is some excellent Vietnamese bread and sandwiches at the walking street night market, but those can be found in Ubon and Udon. Getting around is done by walking or renting a motorcycle. You can take a tuk-tuk, but those are expensive. Mukdahan: Hot and dusty, but a good resting point before jumping the border to Laos.

The market was very interesting, prices ridiculously cheap and a huge variety of goods on offer .the river night market with restaurants is worth the trip alone . Temple and buddha on the mountain is definitely worth seeing. It was a pity the smoke haze covered the city from the the temple , it would be fantastic view looking down over the river and city.

sleepy city by the Mekong, Savanakhet is opposite a short trip over the bridge. I loved the lack of the traffic hum of a big city, particularly on the Laotian side. In another universe there would be even easier to cross back and forth as if it was the same city. Loved this duality.
