Sabi Sand Game Reserve (10 miles from Londolozi Airport)
Leopard Hills is a luxury game lodge situated in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve. It is built on a hill overlooking a natural waterhole and offers panoramic views of the African bushveld. Everything was simply excellent - the staff, the food (including the Boma events), the suite with the amazing terrace and view, the game drives and the animals we saw (including seeing 4 leopards 5 times and the wild dogs twice which tends to be rare on other safaris in other locations). We would definitely recommend Leopard Hills further.
Comfortable small lodge, very friendly service, great game drives with very engaged and knowledgeable rangers, also enjoyed the bush walk very much. Definitely recommend a private game reserve based on the quality of the game drives and the service, as well as the limited amount of visitors. We only stayed one night but saw leopards and lions, etc.
First time on Safari and the whole experience was wonderful. All the staff from ranger and tracker to the kitchen staff were friendly and helpful. Just really nice people. Saw all that we hoped for and much much more. We were lucky to see the wild dogs and hyenas with a kill and also Ostriches', which apparently was the first time they'd been seen at the lodge in 24 years, how lucky were we! The ranger and tracker certainly went that extra mile to find the animals for us. Don't hesitate to book. We will definitely be going back.
I have never seen so many leopards on a safari before. We had a wonderful view of a watering hole from our lodging. There are many places to stay with different options for price and ambience. Was a magical stay
I paid 5,700 Rand for 3 evening drives in the reserve each lasting around 3 hours. I've been on many a game drive in the area over the years and when game spotting I am optimistic and realistic at the same time. I saw a 3 lions and a leopard along with other animals. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate my overall experience as 6. If I were to travel to the area in the future I would book 1 drive and concentrate my game viewing in Kruger Park.
Sabi game reserve is quite big with many private lodges inside. It is open to Kruger park, so animals are free to roam anywhere. The difference is that the ranger and tracker can actually follow an animal wherever they go (without entering Kruger). It is expensive , but if you can afford it, the experience is quite different. The ranger and tracker that took us for a drive from Umkumbe were great. The ranger spotted a chameleon on the tree, in the dark, under the light beam from the trackers torch, at a distance of about 25m. We have no clue how! Great experience to be able to go offroad in the vehicle and get really close to the animals. A leopard had hidden their kill in the tree, which we went back to after dark, when the leopard had come back. Unfortunately that was the only cat we saw that night. Saw a hippo and a hyena too, but that's just luck when you are out in the bush. A family on the previous night had seen the leopard kill the buck as well. The private Sabi game drive is expensive, and depending on how lucky you get, you might think it is either worth it/or a waste of money.
