Would absolutely recommend to all. While it can be a bit pricey with Marine Park fees, it is absolutely worth the convenience and comfort.

Mafia Island Marine Park, the largest and oldest in Tanzania is 6km from Meremeta Lodge.. Meremeta Lodge is a very beautiful place in the Western side of Utende. Wonderful rooms and a spectacular lobby/restaurant. The owner is almost always present and super friendly and supportive, as is the rest of the staff. Our room had an AC which was a blessing. Breakfast was self-service but super tasty. Generally, the food was really nice and varied. Well spiced. And super tasty desserts! It is possible to borrow bicycles to get around, which is super helpful as this place is not located directly at the beach. However, you get there really quickly by bike, and the upside to the location is that it is rather quiet.

Chole Mjini Treehouses Lodge offers unique tree house accommodation on Chole Island in the heart of the Mafia Island Marine Park. The property has a dive centre.

The partly open and thatched tree houses are locally crafted and offer magnificent sea views. Each comes with a balcony, seating area and mosquito net. The bathrooms are fitted with a shower. Extras include a safety deposit box, free laundry and morning tea or coffee delivered. An amazing little island with outstanding tree house accommodation. Eco tourism at its finest. Plenty of activities to keep you entertained. Perfect for winding down after doing safari. Definitely worth a visit. The owner has done so much to help the locals which was lovely to see.

All the bungalows have a big glass front where you can see the garden and at some locations the beach. Incredibly nice staff - try to help and accommodate wherever they can. Could change the room without problems as I needed AC to be able to sleep (March can be incredibly hot and humid). Even came back to the hotel after diving on the other side of the island. Everything seems a bit rustic as first but you will definitely fall in love with it. There is a really really nice gift shop with handicrafts on site - really nice woman from the village, definitely one to support. The locations to the beach is super close and to the left there are two more hotels you can go for dinner or a drink. People all know each other on Mafia and help you with everything! :) Breakfast is great!

Thank you Mussa, Arza and Yazer (sorry for misspelling) for a perfect relaxing week and taking care of us with great hospitality. We felt like friends not like guests. Our hut was always clean and had electricity and hot water at any time. It is 10 steps to the beach. Fan and moskito net are provided. Every night a very romatnic atmosphere with bonfire on the beach. Fresh coconuts are served as well as cocktails and soft drinks for very fair prices! The best at last: Take every chance to eat dinner or lunch here, the food is outstanding and very fair prices, you get fresh fish from the daily fish market well prepared. Also, plan the whale shark and other excursions directly with Mussa, he will organize a wonderful experience, also with grilled lunch, Thank you for everything, we will keep this week in a beautiful memory and wish you all the best.

Mafia Island Airport is a few steps from the property, and the property offers a paid airport shuttle service. Wonderful team and great facilities! Everyone was so incredibly welcoming, supportive and friendly during our stay, taking the time to visit with us during meals and helping to accommodate our relatively packed time on Mafia. We felt truly at home and only wish we had stayed longer to enjoy the grounds. Upon arrival we were promptly greeted by curious monkeys and saw several elephant shrews as a bonus to our stay. The whale shark excursions that they offer are best on the island (we tried one other operator as well), being not only efficiently run and catering to all demographics, but also very educational and responsibly run by a team that is clearly passionate and informed about the animals. Excellent adventure - thanks for making our time so special :)
