Ask your tuktuk-driver that takes you to the hostel to stop at the desierto rojo (about 5km away from the hostel) for 1h so that you can take a walk through this stunning landscape (if you want you can ask him to guide you).

As a Parisian who travels extensively and tends to have high standards, I have to say: Estrella Casa del Angel is an absolute masterpiece in the middle of the Tatacoa Desert! From the moment we arrived, Lucila and her family welcomed us with warmth and care that made us feel like we were part of their home. Their kindness and attentiveness are unmatched – they truly go above and beyond to ensure every guest feels special. The property itself is stunning. The rustic yet elegant design perfectly complements the natural beauty of the desert. The pools (yes, plural!) are an oasis of relaxation, and floating in the cool water while surrounded by endless desert landscapes is an experience I’ll never forget. This is the perfect spot to disconnect from the chaos of everyday life. No distractions, just peace, tranquility, and the magic of the desert. The attention to detail, from the pristine cleanliness of the rooms to the thoughtful amenities, speaks volumes about the love and care Lucila and her family pour into this place. Gloria and her family were the most welcoming people we met at Colombia. The place is extremely clean and comfortable, exceeding all expectations. Shower is great, a fan is enough to sleep in a cozy blanket, Gloria and Hormer will help you with anything you need to visit the desert, but by far the most amazing thing we did was to know the amazing work they are doing in their "Finca"to restore the vegetation and bring back the native animals.

This place is hosted by a lovely couple who know the region by heart and give great tips on what to visit. They organise tours to visit the valley and offer a great breakfast. The rooms are super clean and have all the comfort you need. It was a great experience staying here.

Andrea was so helpful with everything we needed and even kept offering us tastes of Colombia. We had a lovely fish dinner as well as two lovely breakfasts. Chose the air con room and it was a great haven from the heat!

    The family that run Casa de Campo were so friendly and attentive. They made it very easy to gain information about getting to the desert and arranged affordable transport to the grey desert and Villavieja for us. It was walkable to the red desert and a short walk to the observatory. The lunch was tasty and they catered for me as a vegetarian. We would absolutely recommend this - it is decorated beautifully, very clean and there are lots of areas to relax and hammocks to chill in after your hike. They have lovely pets too!

    Great location, lovely owner who was very helpful with tours to the desert and info about town. Free filtered water is a nice touch, especially in the desert. Bedrooms and bathrooms were very clean.

    Very friendly family, no English but they really try and help you with transport. They keep the whole area very clean. Everywhere cosy hammocks and seats. We got upgraded to a room with a private bathroom. Good location near the observatory, 2.2km walk to the red desert.
