Perfect place to stay if you are doing Tongariro Crossing or other tracks in Tongariron National Park - our host arranged shittle bus for us, also provided packed lunch for our hiking. Lodges are very cozy, a little bit dated but clean and very well equiped. Free laundry! Delicious breakfast! Good fast food truck very close....

It was raining when I arrived. I got out of the car to beautiful music playing outside which flowed inside. Such a lovely welcome coming in from the cold. My ensuite room was very tidy, clean and warm and bed / pillows were comfy. Loved the night lights down hallway, creating a warm atmosphere. The host was lovely too sorry I did not get your name.

We came during the low season in June, and we really enjoyed our stay. The Lodge is well situated to hike in Tongariro National Park. We also really enjoyed the fact that the kitchen was well equipped! We wouldn’t hesitate going back!

We booked from Australia, so we went on the description. We had been travelling for a week, and upon arrival, you just relaxed, the surroundings in the bush and then when you open the door it was a home, not a motel room, it was a house size. Fullsize bedrooms, large kitchen and, a large outside entertainment area. Close to the mountains. We travelled with a local who just went and told others about it for her tramping group. Also a small walk close to the house. We would recommend this.

All cabins in National Park

Looking for a cabin?

For the active travellers, a chalet is a great mix of the outdoors and the snug inside. Usually fully furnished and self-catered, chalets are typically wooden and in the Alpine region of Europe, but can also be found elsewhere in the world. Characterised by their sloped roofs, chalets can be single units or separate apartments, and are ideal for skiing holidays.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Alpine Chalets during our visit to Whakapapa. It is conveniently located just 20 minutes from the ski field. Mary, our delightful host, texted us before our arrival and even recommended a nearby Thai takeaway. The staff were attentive and fulfilled all our requests with a smile. While the chalets doesn't have stove, they went out of their way to provide us with cooking stoves. We highly recommend The Alpine Chalets and look forward to staying here again.
