Mountain Paradise in Salzburg Province

A paradise in the Austrian state of Salzburg, Zell am See is located along the shores of the Zell Lake and surrounded by mountains like the 2000-metre high Schmittenhöhe. It is an important ski centre in the winter and a hiking and mountain-biking paradise during summer.

The area has been occupied since Roman times, but the village was founded around the year 740 by the order of Bishop Johannes I of Salzburg. The picturesque Old Town includes typical Alpine style buildings, as well as the oldest building of the region, St. Hippolyte's Church. Would advise when booking accommodation that you book somewhere that includes the summer card as this gives you free access to all the gondolas in the area and free travel on local buses and trains plus discounted entry to many activities and saves you a lot of money.

    You can see a lot of facilities with the summer card. A lot to do for families ( hiking, cycling, rafting, bathing, swimming, sightseeing,visiting museums ). The food and drinks in restaurants are expensive, so it’s better to have food included in the hotel price or buy it in the store.

    It's the right midpoint between the regions of Leogang and...

    It's the right midpoint between the regions of Leogang and Saalbach-Hinterglemm, if you are into mountain biking, and the Grosser Donnerkogel, if you are into via ferratas. Being in Zell am See gave us the possibility to do multiple things withing a 1h driving radius.

    Zell am See is rightly popular because it is uperbly located on the most beautiful lake, with mountain scenery that changes with the light throughout the day. it is also makes an excellent centre for touring. special mention must be made of the Kaprun Glacier and the Kaprun Reservoir. Simply unmissable.

    Views of the lake with the best mountain backgrounds are from the other end of the lake - the most northerly. We didn't do it, but it looks like a good place to hire bikes or electric bikes to see more of the lakeside.

    Zell am See is a beautiful place and we have stayed there many times over 40 years. We were unaware that the week we chose this trip was a mid season break and nearly all facilities and services in the town were closed. It was like a ghost town, with limited amenities and very few visitors. WHY WERE WE NOT TOLD THIS BY THE HOTEL WHEN WE BOOKED!!!!!!

    Very clean and comfortable room.. The photos on booking.com 100% reflect what we found. Fully equipped kitchenette. Sauna available everyday, Bus stop in front of the building entrance. The ski bus ran on limited days but you could take another bus to the ski bus. Very nice owner, told us the history of the house and family. House located in a quieter part of Zell am see but it depends on who prefers what.

    Amazing view, very responsive management, provided summer card (received the second day but no big deal as first day it will not be useful direcyly after the check in at 4pm). The TV is huge and has Netflix & youtube. The apartment has an AC which is rare in Zell am See. This is the best hotel I have been to from the other 4 hotels I booked in Austria.

    Hotel looks like very new, apartments modern and nice, clean. Perfect servis and great breakfast. You need to count with 15 mins walk to hill in case you will not use car to visit downtown. Swimming pool great. Price include ZELL AM SEE-KAPRUN SUMMER CARD, which save a lot of money to visit numerous costly atraction around.

    It was a very nice hotel with clean room, heated pool and nice, quiet wellness area. A stay at the hotel provides you with Kaprun sommer card which gets you free entry to several cable cars, boat trip on the lake and etc. Our 2 families with kids from 2 to 13 years old enjoyed the hotel as well.
