The Hotel Manager was very helpful in explaining the history of Northam when I ask about it. The early check in was definitely a wonderful surprise for the start of our holiday in Perth as it allow us to get good rest after our fight and 2 train ride to get there.

The Rec has obviously had a decent reno fairly recently. Although the facade and finer details are from the early 1900s, it was still modern feeling and comfortable. The room was equipped with two comfortable beds (one queen/double) and one single/king single, a cupboard, chair, tele, and bar fridge. Although the bathroom facilities were shared, there was readily available showers and toilets with privacy that were clean. The top floor verandah was a great place to unwind. Easy and free parking. And the restaurant was REALLY good, reasonably priced and exceptional food. The topper was the friendly staff at reception and in the restaurant.

So we actually stayed in Le Var not the Gate House. We loved the grounds, the history, the peace and serenity and our cute room with the very generous, modern ensuite.

Great little pub with lovely food and the staff are polite friendly and welcoming. Rooms are super comfy quiet and spacious, it had a little kitchenette and all the basics you need.
