A first and very positive impression is made by the very welcoming staff which then continuous in the exceptional style of the hotel, the room, the restaurant, and the rooftop bar - funky but warm, friendly, and well-balanced. Overall, the philosophy is clearly one of "above and beyond" which extends from the staff to the facilities and even to the offering of our room's minibar. Loved it, happy to visit again.

I loved the set up of the room, the bathroom and shower area. we arrived early and the staff were so helpful, took our bags, rang us when a room became available and when we returned had already placed all our luggage in the room. JapanThis was an atmospheric hotel fortunately within my price range. Spacious, comfortable and very clean rooms. The lady who checked me in was nice. Bed was just a touch soft for my taste, however, tastes differ. It was also conveniently right near an L tram stop which is a few stops from the main Newcastle Exchange station, and also a few stops from Newcastle beach. In my offtime, I have to say that the Newcastle beach and several harbors are beautiful, even had a couple nice huge pools supported by the city. There was also a very large and convenient Metro supermarket just a couple blocks away. Also the bar/restaurant was really great, wonderful food and drinks, and staff was very pleasant.

The property does not deserve a 8.1 rating. Could not use the shower or the air conditioner due to there below poor condition, including foul smell. Beds were terrible. The location was a positive as we were just passing through on a long road trip and the property was just off the freeway which is what we were looking for. The kitchen was well equipt with utensils etc. The main bedroom was reasonably comfortable. My husband spoke with the hosts and he said they were very friendly. I have to say the property has the making of a nice little place but it is looking a bit tired and run down. It smelt a bit musty and the decor made it feel quite dark. The grounds look like they need a bit of TLC as well. While I liked the fact there were fresh eggs from the resident chickens and there is an intention to be waste conscious (with bins etc for food scraps and recycling etc) there were no bin bags for general rubbish. This and the limitations on the general cleaning I think has lead to a pest issue (we saw A LOT of cockroaches! I am aware that it is summer season and a few cockroaches are inevitable but there were far more than the average). The bed linen I will add was clean and overall it was an OK place for a one night stay but we were keen to move on quickly. I dont like to be negative but I do wish that I had known about some of the above points prior - although there was no mention of cleanliness issues or cockroaches in other reviews it was our experience. The Warm greeting we received from Peter was exceptional. The cottage was Cozy, clean spacious & extremely well appointed with numerous additional comforts supplied. A very extensive range of options to choose from for breakfast (included) & the offer of dinner repaired if wished. This was truly a home away from home, we only wish we could have stayed longer. We had our little toy poodle with us & she was received with a friendly pat from Peter. Glenys greeted us the following morning with a happy smile. We enjoyed our stay there as it was close to the expressway but not close enough to interfere with sleeping. We ate at the Raymond Terrace Bowling Club and found the food very good. We also visited the local Woolies which is a couple of kilometres south to grab supplies. You can get anything you need there in Raymond Terrace or Heatherbrae which is nearby. We were in transit to visit sick relatives and therefore were only basically staying there to sleep in the middle of our journey.Guest review byGlennAustralia
