An incredible town with an amazing atmosphere and very friendly people. We were blown away by how knowledgeable the people we met were of the history of the town and how willing they were to talk to us about it. The museum was mind blowing and we spent a day there. The last post ceremony of a night time was so moving and something we will never forget. I love to explore the events of WWI in the Ypres Salient and so I keep coming back. Ypres itself is an historic, beautifully rebuilt town with charm, excellent restaurants, with great food, plenty of space, especially around the Main Square and, of course, the draw of the Menin Gate, with its evening Last Post ceremony - not to be missed. The old town (no building is, however, much older than 100 years because of the war) is surrounded by its Vauban fortress walls and moat, which provide scope for a relaxing walk along the paths and under the trees. Head to the Lille Gate and explore the serenity of the Rampart Cemetery, a beautiful location that unwraps the modern story of Ypres in one small, peaceful location.Guest review byroddersjmUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Ypres is a perffectly accessible place, very clean and welcoming. Lots of eating and drinking places, and shops, around Grote Markt, and of course many places to see and visist related to WW1. Wonderful old town - beautiful central square. Multiple bars / restaurants. We were in town as part of WW1 road trip and this was easily the best place. Menin gate is stunning and the last post ceremony was very moving and incredibly well attended. Brilliant if you have any interest in WW1. I recommend visiting Passendale Museum with authentic trenches although these are not original you really get the sense of what they were like at the beginning of the war and Sanctuary Woods Museum where there are still original trenches although obviously after over 100 years they are not as pristine as Passendale. Both are only 15 - 20 mins away by car or motorbike. The Menin Gate in Ypres (Ieper - that's eeeper not leper to the Belgian people) is a must and the last post played every night at 20.00hrs is not be missedGuest review byDavidUnited Kingdom
