The Calmer Side of Lanzarote
Playa Blanca is the newest, and arguably quietest, large resort on Lanzarote, which makes it popular with families. It is partially sheltered from the Atlantic winds by the dormant Montaña Roja volcano, and volcanic rock lines its sandy beaches which are spread around a bay.
There are 3 main beaches: Playa Dorada which is popular for watersports, Playa Blanca – the most peaceful, and Playa Flamingo which is overlooked by shops, bars and restaurants serving locally caught seafood. Further east the long stretches of sand give way to the rocky Papagayo Coves whose beautiful scenery is depicted on many a postcard.
A promenade linking the 3 beaches is lined with luxury hotels and resorts available on Booking.com, many offering all inclusive options and some even have their own water park. There are also lots of cheap apartments and private villas in Playa Blanca, some of which overlook Marina Rubicon. The Castillo de las Colorados watchtower sits on a rugged piece of headland looking across the Atlantic Ocean towards the hilly terrain of Fuerteventura.
Ferries to this neighbouring Canary Island depart from just across the bay and offer beautiful views back across the whitewashed buildings towards the mountains behind Playa Blanca.

From our hotel to playa blanca itself it was approximately a 15min walk. We tended to walk on the prom but for a good few sections of it, there was no cobbled stones at all only sections of broken up stone making it very difficult for walking. For anyone with mobility problems , its extremely difficult to manage it. Playa Blanca itself has a great variety of restaurants and cafes and clothes shops also. As well as the port for catching the ferries to Gran Canaria and Fuerventura. We are in a restaurant everyday called LA Bahia. The food was beautiful. Unbelievable variety there from normal to Chinese to fish dishes and the staff....just excellent . Great memories from this restaurant.Guest review byKathrynIreland - 8.0

If you don't want noise, ask to be accommodated in the quiet area as that is possible. If you want self catering, this is perfectly possible as there is a good Spar about 5-10 minutes walk away. There is also a good choice of reasonably priced restaurants within easy walking distance so plenty options for dinner / lunch / tapas / breakfast if you want that. We have visited Playa Blanca 5 times in the last 2 years. Relatively tranquil resort where you are spoilt for choice with restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. A promenade runs from the upmarket Marina end through to Flamingo beach and hotels beyond. Has 4 main beaches. Dorada has sunbeds. We love the general atmosphere. Playa Flamingo is a beautiful beach set in a bay with golden sand. Very quiet and safe.. There are a variety of different themed restaurants, a couple of bars, and 2 supermarkets along the promenade and also a kiosk by the main steps down to the beach, A leisurely 15 minute stroll along the promenade will take you into Playa Blanca itself with many restaurants and shops. Puerto Blanco is an amazing restaurant, it is situated on the promenade after the Port - food is lovely, lots of choice on the menu and portions are large!! Playa Blanca is our favourite holiday destination! We have been going for many years and have seen all the changes over the years! As we are getting older, we like to stay central, near to everything! We always have a hire car ( picked up from the airport when we arrive and dropped off when we return, which we highly recommend doing ) for going further afield !! The location is brilliant sitting just above Marina Rubicon where there’s a great selection of restaurants and shops.
