Setenil is a unique place because of its cave houses, shops, bars and restaurants located under rock. Its a great place for a day trip or an overnight stay. Be sure to try to go during the main opening times of shops and restaurants between 10am and 8pm (for the majority). Recommend La Dehesa del Ibérico --delicious jamón ibérico and queso along with very good quality wine. Abacería El Rincón del Beso, a quirky upstairs terrace under the rock, also with very good quality wine. Many other restaurants to try, but I arrived at 7pm on a Tuesday in August and left at 9am on the Wednesday morning, so many were closing at 8pm and not open when I left.Guest review byGillianSpain - 8.0
Setenil is quite touristy, however it is a pretty town.
Setenil is quite touristy, however it is a pretty town. You do need to be happy and fit to walk up and down some steep streets. There is parking, but it eas not easy to find, despite the parking signs, and you really do not want to start driving into the town. There are several points of interest and great views, the river area is pretty and there are cafes, bars and restaurants there. To get to the Tourism Office you have to go up steep steps and fairly steep roads, which might not suit everyone, but then Setenil is built on the side of hill. The centre with the overhanging rock was a sight to see. Plenty of shops and restaurants.Guest review byJohnSpain - 6.0
Setenil can be done in a day trip really.
Setenil can be done in a day trip really. We stayed overnight because it was about a two hour drive to get home and we wanted to be able to relax and have a meal and some drinks. When we were there at the end of June all the restaurants in the main plaza only opened for the lunchtime trade so we were extremely limited for eating out that evening. The village is quirky with its cave houses and we loved that for a small donation we were able to go inside one of the houses. Setenil is not suitable for less abled people, it is very hilly and there are a lot of steps. I would not even want to push a baby buggy around! Fascinating place and great for photos. Not much to do, other than walk, and poor quality food. A day trip or overnight at most. Park in the Parking Los Caños. Steep hills to the top of the cliff can be driven to a certain point but be careful you don’t leave town…As the road to the top also joins the motorway…Restaurants are not open during bank holidays, however the residents were extremely helpful and willing to give you directions, including the owner of the place we rented… When above and beyond with information…Guest review byMiliUnited Kingdom

He explained the orientation of the property, and was able to give recommendations on restaurants. We were able to park for free along a nearby street. Good that there was a small supermarket nearby that opened until quite late. When you step outside on the street you are immediately under the rock sky which is a surreal experience. The house is very clean and I slept very well in the rock chamber, a very quite place.
