this was by far the best accommodation i have ever been to and deserves the best rating i have ever given. the family is so incredibly nice and tries to make your stay as good as possible. you can plan activities with them and all activities are free, whereas at other accommodations in the region you would pay a fortune. we also went to the famous sawa-i-lau caves, which was an experience. the food is incredible. the man knows how to cook and teaches you about fijian cuisine for just 25 dollars a day per person. they also try to show you the culture of the local people, show you nearby villages, schools and churches. an absolute experience! i can recommend this accommodation with heart and joy to everyone. it is not just an accommodation, but a unique experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. vinaka and thank you for the great time!

The food! We would like to give the chef a HUGE thumbs up! So delicious and nice. I also liked the visit to the school and village. Everyone is so nice, and it was truly an unforgettable experience for us. And it was very lucky that our last day was FIJI National Day! We attended the ceremony. It was fun, and I was a bit touched when seeing Fijians being so proud of their country. It's also the National Day of my country, but I've never attended this kind of ceremony to show my love and respect.

Home made food of exceptional quality, taste presentation .. like five star hotel. Ice cream freshly made on premises using local fruit in season (papaya, banana, pineapple, mango) and home made all natural ingredients is supper tasty. The accommodation is extremely specious overlooking beautiful sandy beach with amazing water colour variations. The sunrise is astonishing, orange glow half hour before sunrise followed with spectacular sunrise. The host is very friendly, attentive, worked in high end resort and it shows in food quality, presentation and in general how he treats his guest. The people in village are also very friendly. The host provided us with well priced boat transfer to the nearby Nacula Island. He arranged kayak rental, provided detailed instruction for hike to the Blue Lagoon. That easy hike is featured by fascinating views of green island mixed with palette of blue and turquoise ocean water colour.

We absolutely loved our stay at Mai sunset resort! We had previously stayed at Barefoot Manta and Barefoot Kuata and Mai sunset was the best place we stayed at during our week holiday. The staff were wonderful, all so welcoming and friendly and we felt that they did everything they could to make our stay as great as possible. We arranged a local village tour and as the staff at the resort lived in the village, they took us there, showed us around, introduced us to their families and even made us some tea and homemade roti, it was amazing! Thank you Ili and Peter for a fantastic experience! The food at the resort was so tasty. On our first evening we were treated to a fijian lovo (underground oven) and they prepared delicious fish and chicken with kasava and salad. Unlike a lot of other local resorts there was no buffet and we could actually choose what we wanted to eat from a menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner which felt like a real treat! The resort was so quiet and peaceful, and our bure felt like being in a 5 star hotel! We felt so relaxed from day 1 and there were only 8 other guests staying at the resort during our time there who we got to know really well by the end of our stay, everyone seemed happy to be there and it led to a really positive atmosphere, something we hadn't experienced elsewhere. Joelle, the boat captain took us on out on the boat so we could snorkel in the nearby coral for free which was so kind, and we also arranged a trip to the Sawa-i-lau caves on our final day which Joelle and Peter ensured worked out timing wise with the Yasawa flyer. Overall, we had the most amazing time staying at Mai Sunset and can't recommend staying here enough! Thank you so much to Paul, Liti, Peter, Joelle, Ili, Peci, Fane, and Ane, Sota Tale!

What a wonderful and memorable stay in a traditional Fijian village. We liked it so much that we ended up staying in Soso village for a month. Silo, Bill, Va, Rob, Simi, Luisa and Iki, we will never forget the great time we had with you. You took good care of us, prepared extra food for the children and helped us when they got sick. As for the village. The people are very friendly, with a lot of children, so our kids made friends instantly. The beach in front of the village is beautiful, with a nice healthy reef to snorkel and there are some nice hikes with spectacular views over all of the Tasawas. As there is no light pollution, stargazing is breathtaking and the manta ray passage is just around the corner. The accommodation is very basic with a bucket shower and no-flush-toilet, but the beds are comfortable and the food is great. Note that the water available is rain water, so if you want to go safe, bring your own bottled water (or aqua-tabs) from the mainland because there are no real shops on the island. Also, you should wear a Sulu (Sarong) around the village and in church, men too. And it’s expected that you bring a kava root (worth 20 FJ$) and/or some money to present to the chief of the village when you arrive.

The most amazing tropical island you can think off, welcoming family (Emily, Seru and team were amazing!), nice bonfires, and always kind guests to chat with! We had an amazing time ar Wai Makare! Just be mindful, if you want a luxurious resort with constant internet and electricity and warm water for your shower, this might not be the place for you. However, if you want to enjoy the real Fiji, its Beauty and its kind people… this is the place for you!

We love the beautiful island, the wonderfully colourful fish...

We love the beautiful island, the wonderfully colourful fish on the reef. We saw nine species of birds including silver eye, wood swallow, red fronted fly catcher, grey goshawk, Australian black duck, white faced heron. We feel that when Nancy called from America at American times, it disrupted the easy going flow of the homestay, and showed lack of faith in the very competent friendly staff who were so good to us. We are dog owners but don't allow dogs inside our home, and we felt there were times when guests were feeding dogs and being too friendly with them near the meal table. Apparently unaware of hygiene and compromise to the obedience training of the dog. Vinaka Paul and Margaret
