FAQs about hotels in Arles

A Beautiful Journey Through Time

Located in the Provence of France, the charming city of Arles is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List thanks to its stunning Roman monuments and rich history. This beautiful destination was once a great inspiration for important personalities through time, including the Emperor Constantine I and Vincent van Gogh.

Home to the Roman baths of Constantine, the necropolis of Alyscamps and the Church of St. Trophime, Arles is a perfect example of a city perfectly combining the ancient with the modern. Built about 2,000 years ago, the Roman Arena (Arles Amphitheatre) is an imposing landmark, hosting bullfights during the festival of Feria d’Arles.

The famous painter Vincent van Gogh stayed in Arles for almost a year and created about 300 paintings and drawings. Follow his steps and visit the places depicted in some of his masterpieces, like 'Starry Night Over the Rhone', 'Langlois Bridge', 'Night Café' and the 'Yellow House'.

Situated on the banks of the River Rhône, Arles is about 15 km from the cities of Saint-Martin-de-Crau, Maussane-les-Alpilles and Tarascon. Nîmes-Alès-Camargue-Cévennes Airport is 20 km away and Booking.com will help you find a hotel, resort or apartment in the gorgeous city of Arles.

    The town is lovely.

The town is lovely. Enjoyed the Roman Colosseum, amphitheatre and baths. Visiting La Camargue our main reason for visiting Arles was a delight. However we found in general the food was a bit dissappointing. We visited the fabulous Luma Building which we loved also. Overall would recommend Arles for a 3 day trip maybe, rather than a week

I had a wonderful 4 days in Arles.

I had a wonderful 4 days in Arles. Arles offers ancient sites, history , art and quality food. The city is ideal for walking and the monument and gallery passes are very good value for money. The tourism app contains many walking tours with brief commentary of key sights. My visit to Arles was a highlight of my 6 weeks in France.

Stay in the center of the old town, make sure you have parking provisions for your car, and get ready to enjoy the Market Day plus all the Roman history of the village. The hosts have great dining recommnedations that are within walking distance of the apartment.

I visited Arles specifically to attend les Rencontres de la Photographie - a series of exhibitions scattered throughout the old sections of the town and it is a fabulous event, easy to walk between venues and to appreciate the whole tourist thing from the river to the park, the tower, the old factories, a number of the churches/monasteries/convents. Great local cafes and restaurants and you appreciate the ebb and flow of the city life.

We visited Arles for the photography exhibition. It was great seeing all the old buildings and how the exhibits were spread throughout the old City. There are many great restaurants and bars. The Saturday market was really good too!

Arles is a big city with the Roman architecture contained in the very centre. It has good restaurants (listed on TripAdvisor). We enjoyed the Art exhibitions and strolling around looking at the architecture. There is some nice shopping to be had and most boutique owners spoke English. We loved the Pizzeria near the Arena (right down the bottom of the hill) and Restaurant La Pergula was reasonably priced with good food. We liked the street cafe (with its large mosaic of Van Gogh inside), opposite the Tourist Information Office (where the people were very helpful). We did a Safari to the Camargue which was well worthwhile. It's difficult to park in the centre of Arles so take your walking shoes!

I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Le Calendal! The location is perfect for exploring Arles, and from the front desk to the bar/restaurant, to the cleaning staff, everyone was warm, welcoming, and went beyond my expectations when I needed help and recommendations. My room was charming and comfortable, and I especially loved the peaceful garden area. The rooftop bar was a highlight—great cocktails and a very friendly Nora (bartender) made it a perfect spot to unwind in the evening. Go nowhere else. I highly recommend Le Calendal!

Charming little hotel, friendly staff. Excellent location in a quiet area near the bridge to cross to the old city center. Parking was free on the street. At the time of booking I didn't know it was Feria de Riz, so that was a nice surprise with lots of festivities in town with all the locals coming out. Arles is a beautiful city with lots of history and architecture to take in.
