Castres is a lovely town , beautifully decorated for Christmas. Lovely Christmas Markets , very family oriented. However , not a lot of restaurants open Christmas Eve even for lunch and a many closed from the 23 rd of December till end of first week in January ! An historic and vibrant town, chock-full of excellent bars, cafes and restaurants. Rarely have we seen so many establishments. Covid has closed some of the historic buildings and the Goya museum is shut for a year for major restoration. The tourist office was first-class, so helpful. Myriad shops of every kind in gorgeous little sidestreets, a wonderful covered market selling mouthwatering meats, charcuterie, cheese, spices, wine etc. and open every day. Reception staff were amazing, friendly and approachable. The owner greeted my husband warmly on each occasion we saw him and the hotel has an atmosphere of relaxed friendly welcoming feel. The house and gardens were magnificent, it was a period Manor house. The breakfast was taken in the garden and was excellent.
