A historic port city with lots of fortifications, history, architecture, culture, fabulous scenery, great walks, lovely beach, and an abundance of restaurants, bars and shops all contained in a safe walkable city. Only had time to stay one night but could happily have stayed longer. The old town is lovely to walk around and many of the buildings are stunning. We were very happy that any time we needed advise or suggestion everyone we met was extremely helpful and even when we missed the last bus to return to the hotel late sunday night we were invited to sit in lobby of waterfront hotel as they called a taxi for us. Mc nultys Irish pub , run by Noel mc nulty is a wonderful place to meet lovely people and have some fun . We happened across a live Irish trad session with the great Maurice Lennon in tow ( of stocktons wing fame ) An authentic Irish pub where u will have a night to remember . Hotel marine at the port where we stayed was fab ! I wouldn’t bother with the restaurants at the port . Nicer food down the streets off the port . A fantastic place you have got to visit . We have been to La Rochelle 4 times twice with our children...
We have been to La Rochelle 4 times twice with our children and twice as a couple and we absolutely love it, there are so many fabulous places to eat and it is more affordable to eat out than in Ireland. We have always felt very safe there. This was our first time there in September and we were unlucky with the weather but we will definitely return during the summer months ❤️Guest review byAudreyIreland
