Paris by the Sea
Le Touquet combines the glamour of Paris with the tranquillity of the Opal Coast. Created by the founder of ‘Le Figaro’ newspaper, this exclusive holiday resort soon became a popular retreat for rich residents of the French capital, hence the suffix: Paris-Plage.
The town’s wide sands begin at the mouth of the Canche River and are lined with a promenade and colourful beach huts. Further south the promenade fades into sand dunes, overlooked by a golf course.
Other pursuits include a racecourse and a ritzy casino which was supposedly the inspiration for the one frequented by James Bond in ‘Casino Royale’. Ian Fleming did stay here, as did other famous authors including HG Wells and Sir Noël Coward, and other famous faces have graced the halls of Westminster Hôtel, a luxury Art Deco property available on Booking.com.
Le Touquet-Paris-Plage also has B&Bs and apartments dotted around its small town centre. Some are on the Rue St Jean shopping street and the perpendicular Rue de Metz, which has a semi-circular market square.
One of the town’s larger events is the Enduropale motorbike and quad bike race across the sands, and many competitors arrive via Le Touquet Airport. More family-friendly entertainment is the Aqualud waterpark, complete with slides and swimming pools.

The town is lovely, full of gorgeous restaurants and shops and bakeries that are world class. I can highly recommend Manufacture for great home baked biscuits, as well as JoJo's Dough for incredible donuts and more. The beach is soft and sandy with lots of water sports to choose from. There is something for all ages, with a stunning carousel which you to have need cash for. We have now been here twice and we plan to come again with the kids for a nice weekend break. Le Touquet P P is a very nice, clean, chic town. A good selection of shops and boutiques along with many bars and restaurants catering for all needs. The beach is exceptionally clean and large, plenty of parking areas along the promenade. The market is well worth a visit, wander up and down the interconnecting streets admiring the architecture. We were there to play golf so it was perfect for that as there are 3 courses a practice green and driving range all in one area, every where was really well maintained. Le Touqet was lovely for a short visit unless you have children who can use the superb beach. Lots of lovely restaurants and would particularly recommend a seafood one called Perard. On the beach, excellent location. Restaurant on site but other restaurants of better quality are not too far away in the main towm, about 1 mile away. Pool and spa very good, my room was ok, but did not have a balcony, you need a balcony I would suggest to get the best out of your stay.
