I love this small town and whilst it is only 90 minutes from my home, I like to stay for a few days. it is quiet but has lively restaurants, pubs and shops. The beaches are beautiful with excellent coastal walks. Everywhere is dog friendly and my golden retriever had snacks given to her everywhere we visited.

    Harbour, shops nearby.

Harbour, shops nearby. Mostly uncrowded, except chippies on weekend evenings. Good local restaurants, local food, easy to book. Nearby working harbours, and St Andrews within easy reach, and good to visit. Several farm shops, all good quality, for fruit, veg, bread, fish, meat from local sources.

Very characterful village in a lovely part of Fife. People are very friendly and it has all the facilities you would want. Plenty of pubs and eating places; small independent shops etc. Good communication links with St Andrews and other wee villages. Lovely outdoor pool recently upgraded.

Beautiful village location. Access to the Fife coastal path.

Beautiful village location. Access to the Fife coastal path. Decent restaurants and pub. We ate both nights at the Waterfront- delicious seafood sharing platter, fresh roasted veg soup, octopus risotto, and lamb kofta. Good range of choice and reasonable prices. Worth booking, esp Fridays as it's popular, but later in the evening it was quieter and you could walk in. We walked the stunning coastal path, saw bottlenose dolphins, diving gannets and terns. Not for those of limited mobility, but there seemed to be plenty of places near where you could drive for the view.

We visit the town occasionally for the best fish and chips in Scotland. It still has a lot of interesting little shops on the main street. There are pleasant walks along the Fife coastal trail (lovely for going with a dog). If you can visit in June, be sure to book the May Princess for a short boat trip across to the Isle of May (no dogs on this trip) to see the most wonderful nesting seabirds, who visit this now uninhabited (except for the bird counters) island, in their thousands. And the seals, resting on the rocky island shore. Always an amazing experience.

Hotels in Fife were quite pricey for this weekend and the Harbour Inn was certainly cheaper, but for the money we paid, we still would expected a bit more. Very clean, staff friendly and welcoming and great location, but… …tiny room (for 3), thin walls, creaky floor, no terrestrial TV and a shower that lacked any kind of power. It seems the owners are gradually improving the place and I wish them well. I’m sure they’ll get there in the end.

Wonderful place! It's the cleanest hostel I've seen, in a lovely historic building, and the location couldn't be better. The bus stops right outside the door, the sea is across the road, right on the Fife coastal trail and in the heart of scenic Anstruther. The spotless kitchen with its big family-style table was a bonus. I felt right at home - thank you Darius!
