Has a good range of shops and some reasonably priced long-stay parking. Interesting local museum by the river is well worth a visit. Many other seaside villages and other local towns easily reached from this area, including RHS Rosehall Gardens and a couple of NT properties worth a visit. We had a full week at The Spinney, Barnstable and did a different thing each day. Some very good local places to have dinner eg the Williams Arms and Squires Fish Restaurant in Braunton. As with many seaside towns in the UK, Barnstaple has seen better days. The high street is in decline, though there are some nice restaurants, Lush been one we visited twice with great sea food dishes. Barnstaple is a lovely town with plenty of places of interest, shops, bars, and restaurants. We had an evening meal at Clinton & Glass house would highly recommend. The food was excellent. Rock park was a fabulous place for walking our beloved dog Toby. Barnstaple is a good base to stay to explore North Devon. Town felt unloved and centre looked unattractive to me. Area round hotel and park was nicely kept and attractive. The surrounding area has some excellent beaches and beautiful countryside. 5 minutes from Barnstaple or Braunton for shops. Literally 10 minutes from the town centre. It very much felt like a home from home and everything was so chilled and relaxed, exactly what we were looking for during our stay. Much more personable than staying at a branded chain of hotels and very good value for money. My room was comfortable and spacious, and the amenities were excellent. I found the staff to be welcoming, and although I didn’t have time to explore the pool and sauna area, I recommended the hotel to a relative who stayed there and very much enjoyed the sauna.
