I knew nothing about Hitchin having booked an overnight stay...
I knew nothing about Hitchin having booked an overnight stay there purely because of its location to an event I was attending nearby. Very pleasantly surprised. Very compact, old town with lots of interesting buildings dating back several hundred years. Hitchin is a really nice place.
Hitchin is a really nice place. The church is gorgeous and looks so good at night. The local people are really friendly and even the teenagers have manners. If you like walking or running, there is a lot of open space nearby and some nice little trails of you prefer biking. There are a lot of little boutique shops too selling things you wouldn't find on the Internet of you are looking for gifts. Hitchin is a good base of you are wanting to go to Duxford for the air show, or if you are wanting to explore Royston and the Templar cave. There is a mix of architecture spanning the different periods in history too. If you are hungry, there is a wide choice of places to eat from restaurants to take aways. The Bodrum does fantastic kebabs, and the Town Frier has proper seaside fish and chips. The Sun Inn does some really nice food, and the bar is really quiet, but the staff are first class. I've not had time to explore everything due to only being here through work, so I can only describe where I've been, but I love what I've seen.Guest review byJohnnyUnited Kingdom

I was attending an event nearby so the proximity (10 mins walk) to Hitchin station was useful. It is also close to town. Room was smallish and no tv, with a single bed, I chose en-suite though I believe many have shared facilities. Benslow is a residential musical establishment so it has a dorm feel. The owner/manager was friendly and helpful, as were his staff. The room was reasonably spacious. The Albert Pub below was a lively place with good food cooked by a proper chef.
