Beautiful old building with lots of history set in a very peaceful area of Hitchin. Superb location a stones throw from the town centre. We used to live in Hitchin and have eaten there but never stayed so as we were up for my husband’s birthday it was perfect! Parking is included as is a good breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

The living space was fantastic. Up to 4 of us stayed in the property overnight but we had other members of the family come over for meals and the space happily accommodated 7 of us for a relaxed dinner (some eating with plates on our laps).

We stayed one night but we had time to visit a great Turkish restaurant in town and the next morning we had coffee near the church, which we also visited. The town is full of history and so interesting.

A pleasant old market town, retaining many buildings of architectural interest, with good shops, pubs and places to eat. Convenient location for getting to and from other places, in particular by train, such as London, Cambridge, Peterborough and places in-between.

I knew nothing about Hitchin having booked an overnight stay there purely because of its location to an event I was attending nearby. Very pleasantly surprised. Very compact, old town with lots of interesting buildings dating back several hundred years. Stayed right in the centre in the Sun Hotel which was great value for money and very relaxing and perfectly located.

Hitchin is a really nice place.

Hitchin is a really nice place. The church is gorgeous and looks so good at night. The local people are really friendly and even the teenagers have manners. If you like walking or running, there is a lot of open space nearby and some nice little trails of you prefer biking. There are a lot of little boutique shops too selling things you wouldn't find on the Internet of you are looking for gifts. Hitchin is a good base of you are wanting to go to Duxford for the air show, or if you are wanting to explore Royston and the Templar cave. There is a mix of architecture spanning the different periods in history too. If you are hungry, there is a wide choice of places to eat from restaurants to take aways. The Bodrum does fantastic kebabs, and the Town Frier has proper seaside fish and chips. The Sun Inn does some really nice food, and the bar is really quiet, but the staff are first class. I've not had time to explore everything due to only being here through work, so I can only describe where I've been, but I love what I've seen.

As a cheaper option, Benslow is excellent. I was attending an event nearby so the proximity (10 mins walk) to Hitchin station was useful. It is also close to town. Room was smallish and no tv, with a single bed, I chose en-suite though I believe many have shared facilities. Benslow is a residential musical establishment so it has a dorm feel. Big shout to breakfast and the staff! Buffet style with excellent fried options.

It is good that the pub offers this type of accommodation as there is clearly a shortage in Hitchin. The owner/manager was friendly and helpful, as were his staff. The room was reasonably spacious. The Albert Pub below was a lively place with good food cooked by a proper chef. There is also a very nice Turkish-run café next door, recommend for breakfast.
