Arriving late off the Northlink ferry is sometimes a challenge for getting booked into places and obtaining keys and parking can be an issue. This however was perfect with its own car park and the room keys and a welcome note left for my arrival. The room was prepared ready for my arrival, heating and lights on and curtains closed. The en-suite room was warm and comfortable with all the usual shower gel, shampoo, tea and coffee etc. The breakfast was perfect and the owners/staff very welcoming and friendly. I've definitely found my place for when work takes me to Orkney :-)

Fantastic stay here, the perfect place to explore Orkney from. Dorothy was wonderful and ensured everything was well organised, clean and comfortable. The hot tub was fantastic after exploring outdoors on the colder, windier days. A short drive to Kirkwall township in a quiet setting. Highly recommended!

We stayed for three nights after eleven on Shetland.

We stayed for three nights after eleven on Shetland. We found great gluten free eating options in Kirkwall (I will review on Find me Gluten Free). We arrived very late on Friday. Saturday we spent in the many museums, historic buildings, galleries and shops of Kirkwall. We did one day trip by bus and ferryl to the excellent Sccapa Flow museum. Unfortunately the only day we had to do this was Sunday, when the buses are infrequent, so we had to spend most of the day at Scarpa Flow. On the monday, we were on the late night ferry to Aberdeen, and could not stay or leave our luggage in the apartment. So we hired a car - and visited the prehistoric monuments and the museum in Stromness before spending some at Scapa Beach. We ate in The Storehouse restaurant, which was really hospitable and the food was amazing, then getting a taxi to the ferry termina. We had visited a couple of islands in Orkney before, but this was our first time in these parts - we will bve back!

Great coastal hikes. Unbelievable archaeology. Mellow people. Decent public transportation on Mainland. Long, rich history. Beautiful place. Good charity shops and much locally made jewelry. Welcoming services at the cathedral and the Catholic Church. Good restaurants, but suggest you make reservations in advance.

The Churchill Barriers and the Italian Chapel are wonderful and full of fascinating wartime history. Maeshowe was a great visit with the commentary from our guide full of humour and interest. Ring of Brodgar and Stenness - atmospheric - as was Skara Brae. The St Magnus Cafe in Kirkwall is a great, casual eating place and the Ayre Hotel for something more formal - both with very good food.

lovely clean apartment with great views of both Kirkwall and Scapa Beach. Very clean space, with extra helpful additions such as dishwasher with tablets, alongside and washing machine with pods to use if required. Comfortable bed. Self check in via lockbox is great, with access to the apartment up a flight up stairs. Kirkwall town centre is around a 20 minute walk downhill, uphill on the way back. Parking is very handy outside front door. Great Stay would recommend to use as a base to explore Orkney.

This is a beautiful house in a lovely location. We really enjoyed our stay here. It was a great base for both the ferry to mainland Scotland and to other areas around the island of Orkney. The house is very clean and very comfy. We had a lovely nice sleep. Teresa and Malcom are lovely hosts. Very friendly and helpful. Thank you very much.

Absolutely fabulous! A really special place, overlooking Kirkwall and walking distance from the centre. We were on Orkney with our bicycles and Berstane Lodges was a perfect base for our 4 night stay. The hot tub was a perfect way to start each evening.
