Wow! What a fantastic B&B! The furnishings and decor were top notch, super comfy beds, and the garden patio area was absolutely gorgeous! Alan was a superb host - we enjoyed our visit with him very much! He recommended a great Indian restaurant that was a short walk away, and the food there was delicious! Alan had a wonderful breakfast in the morning for us. Overall we were delighted with our stay. We wished we could have stayed for another night!

The apartment was immaculately presented and very clean. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was lovely with plenty of hot water. Location was very quiet and peaceful with the added bonus of a patio to sit out on with beautiful views over the garden and beyond. Communication was excellent and check-in super easy. What an incredible place! Everything about our stay was perfect. You are wonderful hosts who really do think of everything. Liked · EXCEPTIONALLY PEACEFUL AND CLEAN ACCOMMODATION. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. From the moment we we arrived at Maplestone we were made to feel really welcome. Alan showed us to our room and made us a pot of tea with cake and sat with us in the garden, great service. Alan is an excellent host with a friendly, professional manner with great local knowledge. The accommodation is very comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. Exceptional breakfast was plentiful and delicious with great choice. The property has a beautiful, quiet garden with tables and chairs to relax in. Would definitely stay again. Well done Alan and thank you for your making us feel so welcome.

We only came because we were going to a funeral, shepton...

We only came because we were going to a funeral, shepton doesn't really have lots of pubs/restaurants to go to, the bar at the shrubbery and the club were the best.,it's difficult to get taxis,does have Interesting buildings to visit church/prison.

Apart from using the B&B at Maplestone as a base for a two...

Apart from using the B&B at Maplestone as a base for a two day visit to Longleat, we didn't really explore anywhere else other than visiting two local pubs to have our evening meals i.e the Mendip Inn (twice) and the Thatched Cottage - the food in both was extremely good and the staff in both places couldn't have been more helpful.

Shepton Mallet has some lovely old buildings and much to see...

Shepton Mallet has some lovely old buildings and much to see of interest in the area. Not much in the way of nightlife but we weren't looking for that anyway. Some of the shops /pubs are sadly empty but that seems to be happening everywhere these days.

The town is nice enough but starting to look a bit run down.

The town is nice enough but starting to look a bit run down. Collet park is nice just off the centre. It feels safe, family friendly. It is very convenient for access to Wells and the palace and Cathedral, East Somerset Railway is great. The prison is worth a visit. It gives you a picture of life through prisons of the 1600's through to second world war executions.

Tired old hotel with rooms with peeling paint, broken cupboards and windows and dirty curtains. Had to go up 4 flights of stairs to get to attic room that was being used by the construction staff renovating the spa. Food was limited choice and of porr quality for the money that was being asked and charged. No phone in the room so had to climb up and down 4 flights of stairs to get any service. Issues not addressed and had to check out early, extremely poor hospitality. Do not tale bookings if you cannot provide a basic level of service.

I really liked The Thatched Cottage. We received a very warm welcome from Kevin. The room was spacious and beautiful. The breakfast was delicious, I got the best porridge ever. We found out that the hotel is under a new management and the new team has been running it for two months only. I am sure that they would try to do their best to make more improvements. It will be nice to return here again. We wish all the best to the hotel's team. Thanks a lot for your hospitality.

The continental breakfast was self-service, with a wide choice. The bedroom was spacious, light, and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was hot and easy to use. Bowlish House is 18th century and we liked the character of the place and its setting. The nearby road to Wells could have been noisy but in fact wasn't. Last, and certainly not least, the warmth of the welcome from Maryann!

Lovely, comfortable cottage on a quiet road. Slept really well! Small garden with table and chairs for outdoor space. On-street parking available. Good location (visited Shepton Mallet prison and Wells). Good communication from host with clear information about the cottage and arrival details.
