We stayed in the Strathaven as a stop-off between the Scottish Highlands and Yorkshire on a very cold snowy night. The hotel was busy with a Christmas function and other diners but the welcome was attentive and very friendly. The room was warm and welcoming and a very good standard for staying with our dog. Certainly a worth while place to stay. However, the impersonal approach I felt was rather unwelcome for a B&B. If you wish to present yourself as a B&B, it is my assumption there is a personal approach and personal touch to it. Not in this case. Easy to find with a good signpost on the main road. Well decorated and provisioned rooms. Mine was a family room upstairs with windows at front and back, which you can open to get air through the room when it is hot. Excellent powerful shower. Walk in wardrobe. Comfortable carpet.
