I would have liked to have given a better review but...

I would have liked to have given a better review but unfortunately we had an issue with a faulty oven & hob. Although the electrician attended he was unable to rectify the issue concluding a new oven was required. This left us with only the hob which also tripped out if using more than one ring. Gordon offered us a full refund if we booked out after one night. However this was not acceptable as we had events planned for Saturday. Also, as we had planned to self cater we had bought in food which was wasted and we had to dine out with unexpected expenditure. i.e Friday evening & Saturday evening. Gordon offered a reduction of £100.00 which we thought reasonable, & accepted. We appreciate Gordon would have no control over the oven issue & being weekend there was little that could be achieved until working weekday.

Great location for Breamish Museum and Durham.

Great location for Breamish Museum and Durham. The Gallery's shopping centre just down the road. Very good bus service to these places if you do not want to take your car which we took advantage of. Had several evening meals at a place called Champs, a very friendly sports bar excellent food and very good value for money.

Comfy room, clean with everything you'd expect, plenty of coat hangers. Short walk to a Toby carvery if you don't want to eat at the hotel. Quiet area. Short drive to Beamish museum and angel of the north.

    Staff/breakfast fantastic.

Staff/breakfast fantastic. Room poorly furnished, very dated & rusty/cracked bathroom fittings,no bathroom heating. Good free parking available, but only 2 disabled spaces. The disabled room (no.29)was 14 room lengths away down a corridor from the disabled parking space making carrying luggage very difficult.& return visits to car very tiring. Avoid room take away evening meals, enjoy great comprehensive inclusive breakfast.

The hotel has a lovely in house restaurant and bar.

The hotel has a lovely in house restaurant and bar. There is a Toby Carvery just 5 minutes walk away. The number 50 bus to Durham (or South Shield's) is also only 5 minutes walk away. (45 minute journey - free if like us you have a seniors bus pass)

I was very pleased with the price of accommodation considering the majority of other accommodation in the area far exceeds what I wished to pay. All the other accommodation properties increased their prices due to being high season.

Room was clean, tidy and perfect for the three of us to stay the night before the Great North Run. The hotel is super easy to access from major roads and there is no road noise despite this proximity. Plenty of parking as well. The breakfast range was great, the hotel had organised an early start for all of us running to give us plenty of time to get to the start, and also provided water and fruit to go, which was very thoughtful.

Beautiful apartment slap bang in the middle of the village near the shop, pubs (I highly recommend The Steps but all the pubs are proper traditional and very welcoming with good ale) restaurant (The Forge - we didn't go but we've been told it's excellent). You're a short hop to the A1M for Newcastle and Durham too.
