Antigua is a great location to get a taste of Guatemala.

Antigua is a great location to get a taste of Guatemala. It is easily accessible by private or collective vans from the Guatemala City airport. It is a very safe place to visit for single women or tourists traveling for the first time to Guatemala. The city is very walkable but be aware that the traffic in the streets has the right of way, so be careful stepping off the curb to cross the street. I love walking the streets and visiting the old church ruins. The Markets are full of local goods from Guatemalan artisans. If you have time the local interior market is an adventure worth exploring. The area has a multitude of great restaurants and places to eat. It's a good place to spend a few days, or just use it as a stop on your way to other parts of Guatemala.

On its face, a beautiful, walkable city with plenty of shops and things to do. The prices definitely reflect the high amount of tourism the city gets. You'll likely be paying California prices for food, at the very least. Street vendors can be pushy but there are some real hidden gems around if you just look.

    Most beautiful city.

Most beautiful city. Antigua was the historical capital of Guatemala, and was destroyed in an earthquake. The city has beautiful historic buildings, some of them are ruined. The city center (Parque Central) has many Maya oriented people who are celling art crafts and souvenirs to the many tourist. The wear the traditional outfit, not as a tourist gimmick, but as there everyday clothes. In many cases they are working with the whole family including children and babies, and carry their merchandise on their backs and heads. The view point (Miador) is also beautiful. The city has many nice cafes and restaurant and probably the most beautiful Starbucks branch in the world. You can get from place to place easily and cheaply using a Tuk Tuk or Uber.

Amazing place — worth staying at least a week.

Amazing place — worth staying at least a week. We came to Antigua several times from Guatemala City — first to hike Acatenango, then on the way to Lake Atitlán. We loved it so much that we decided to return and stay an extra week. The town is small but beautiful, with plenty of historic sites, cafes, bars, and great volcano views (especially in the mornings). It feels safe and walkable, even at night. There are big supermarkets, local markets with artisanal goods, and many restaurants set in stunning colonial buildings. Even grabbing a coffee at Starbucks feels like a cultural experience. Lots of tourists, great vibe, and options to take Spanish classes. Highly recommended for a longer stay — at least a week if you can.

Within the city of Antigua it's mostly historical sites restaurants and stores use it as a hoping point for hiking volcanoes, hobitenango, coffee tours, and cooking classes otherwise there's not as much to do within the city. I took an amazing cooking class with De La Gente I highly recommend

Antigua,my favourite place to be in Guatemala. Cosy streets to walk, fantastic restaurants(from expensive to really cheap but always good food) and great bars.I have my favourites. People are very friendly and the view on the vulcanos and other mountains is wonderfull. a lot of free museums that you have to see.

Staff were very accommodating and helpful and attentive. Breakfast buffet was decent (loved all the fruit). Beef carpaccio was amazing. Macaws were fun to have around. Fireplace was great at night (not all rooms have and they don't make a very big fire, I'm guessing they'd bring more wood if needed). Only a few blocks away from central park. Pool is heated. Spa on site and treatment was awesome. Rooms are well lit and happy (unlike a lot of hotels I've seen around antigua).

Authentic beautiful old house full of treasures and spirit. Furnished in old style and colored with flowers. Excellent spaces to rest surrounded by the sound of water. Nice top roof spaces to view volcanoes. Very friendly staff. They arranged for us transportation and due to the early getup breakfast pack. In the afternoon there was coffee and banana cake. All day long cold lemon water and juices wait in the garden.

The hotel was great! Such a beautiful courtyard and shared space, with lots of plants. Having a pool was great to cool off on the hot days. The bed was really comfortable. Free access to water coolers of purified water was a good bonus, so we didn't need to keep buying water. And staff were really friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

Beautiful spacious room set in beautiful grounds and hotel. We had some good sleeps here as it is a peaceful place. This hotel is walking distance (approx 10 minutes) to central Antigua and all that has to offer, yet has a pool, lounging area and sizeable grounds. Good breakfasts with freshly cooked eggs.

There is a museum inside the hotel as it's built on an old monastery that was damaged from an earthquake. Very cool to explore. Lovely breakfast and great pool and spa area.
