Šibenik is not just a holiday resort – it has a lot to offer. It is a city full of spirit. There seemed to be an ongoing music festival, as there was live music every day. The old town is breathtaking: lively, narrow, white-paved streets, ancient houses with bare stone walls, the air filled with the scent of the sea, a busy port, and tourists who are warmly welcomed. There is a city beach, but I recommend leaving Šibenik for swimming – for example, to one of the nearby islands or to smaller beaches outside the inlet. Sibenik ending up being one of the surprise highlights of our trip! The Old Town is quaint and beautiful. It did not feel touristy and yet felt welcoming to tourists. There were plenty of restuarants with a variety of choices. We visited the end of June as the annual International Children's festival was winding up and the town was decorated with streamers with hanging flags of children's drawing--so charming! We liked most the smaller places we visited on our trip: Sibenik and Rovinj. Our two favorite towns. They both had the feel of the medieval towns that they are; easy to enjoy because fewer tourists than in other parts of Croatia. Great seafood; great pizza. The cathedral in Sibenik is a marvel.
The cathedral in Sibenik is a marvel. It is the only cathedral in all of Europe that was built entirely of stone. The town is situated on a beautiful bay with boat access to the Krka Waterfalls. The town itself is charming. It was a welcome refuge after crowded Dubrovnik. It was wonderful to be among Croatians instead of just tourists. The staff in the restaurant were really professional. It was clear that the best in the field from the area work here. The staff in the other restaurants in Šibenik were not nearly as good. Excellent selection of Croatian wines, I was surprised how good they are. The entire Marina Mandalina is actually a world unto itself. When you exit it to the city, you are one or two levels lower.
