Loved the food and the people.
Loved the food and the people. Shopping is light on the pocket. Must visit is Surat castle Dutch Cemetry, and Dumas Beach. You should not skip the Food and shopping here. It's amazing!!!! Surat is not worth a special visit.
Surat is not worth a special visit. However I stayed an extra night here because I was in a pleasant hotel and I needed more time to make plans for onward travel. The main place of interest is the fort which has been restored. This was a large well-executed project and many discoveries were made as the ruined building was explored and rebuilt. Now it is a lovely building and there are also many ceramics, textiles and ivory miniatures on display. The city is noisy and dirty with some old carved wooden houses. It is not particularly attractive but it is safe and people were friendly so I enjoyed my stay. I left by bus and I noticed that there were several upmarket shopping malls on the outskirts.
