We were in transit in Bologna and our flight got canceled so we had to find a place to stay. Although we arrived in the hotel at around 08:00 am, the staff did everything they could to secure a room for us so that the kids can sleep. They didn’t charge us anything for the 6 hour earlier check-in. On the other hand, the facility was excellent and the room included everything that we needed. It’s not located in the city center but it’s not too far from there

FAQs about hotels in Bologna

A Gourmet Delight

World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.

Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.

Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.

The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.

Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

I would recommend the walking tour, which is about 2-hours and very informative. It also helps highlight places you might like to return to to look at in more detail. The centre of Bologna is fairly small, so one can see a lot without having to walk too far. We found sitting with a drink on the piazza Santo Stefano was a relaxing way to pass the time, and the prices for meals felt very reasonable. October felt like a very pleasant time to visit - not too hot, but warm enough.

The Piazza Maggiore is where most of the sights are and despite the size of the city this is where you will spend most of your time. Some attractions are a little expensive- like the anatomy lecture theatre and the hall in an old part of the university but, heh, you only do it once. The food scene and the area adjacent to the Maggiore Square is a must do. Prices in Bologna for eating out are expensive, especially given the value of the Australian Dollar, but you can do it cheaply by looking around.

Hyped up city.Especially the food which was no better than any other town in Italy.Hordes of tourists and a lot of pollution as the town is flat and in a valley. The council have done a good marketing job as apart from the university there is not a lot going for the place.

A fantastic city! So much to see and do. Food is of the best in the world. Felt very safe and happy all holiday. Train station was great for visiting other towns, Parma, Ferrara and Modena. My 8th holiday in Italy and I can say it was right up there with the best.

Bologna is a really nice small city, easy to walk around especially as the pavements are covered to offer shade. Pretty, historic, and not too packed with tourists. Good value for food and drink, and of course spaghetti bolognese is available everywhere!

It’s worth the money for short stays. It is a modern, funky 3 star hotel part of the UNA group. Very well located for travellers across from Bologna Centrale. Young, helpful staff with good English. Room was large and very quiet with fresh air as one could leave the window open. The breakfast was adequate and the staff were responsive if there was anything not working or needing to be addressed. The staff was also helpful in providing suggestions and any other information you may require.

This is the perfect hotel. I stayed as I was travelling on business to attend meetings at the University of Bologna. The hotel was conveniently located to my meetings, lots of restaurants, cafes and shops nearby. This is proper Italy - not a modern built hotel which could be located anywhere in the world.

Location is as central as you can get and host provides you with a full list of food recommendations for Italy's food capital. The benefit of staying in an 'apartment-style' accommodation in Bologna is having a fridge, microwave and dining room for all your local delicacies!

Great hotel near Bologna airport. Also, the city centre is just a 10 minute drive. The breakfast has more to offer than you can ever eat. Lots of different kinds of bread. Also scrambled and boiled eggs, fried bacon, sausages, yoghurt, and fresh juice.
