A review of Varenna requires a disclosure of the overall trip strategy. We stayed in Varenna knowing that we would take trips across the lake to the closest sites of interest. This was a stop on our way to Venice. It was a great introduction to the area. We stayed at the Varrena house for three nights.
We stayed at the Varrena house for three nights. The location was perfect. We could walk to everywhere. We enjoyed the beautiful sunset and villas nearby. We party view of the lake was very beautiful. This unit has two bedrooms which are clean and comfortable. The host was very responsive and helpful. They helped us get a car service to pick us up and drop us off at Milan with very reasonable pricing. We requested for extra soap and laundry detergent and toilet paper. Lovely town. the people were very friendly. We needed the Pharmacia for a few family members and they were fantastic. The restaurants were clean and food was good. Extremely beautiful village very clean, even in middle of July, it did not feel overcrowded, easy walk to all attractions, Villa Monastero gardens is a must. Enjoyed, 4hrs in Billagio for sightseeing and shopping although very crowded. Side trip via bus to the gorge in Bellano was a highlight. Varenna was extremely safe, beautiful and not too crowded the last week of July. Everything that you needed from groceries, fruit, baked goods, breakfast, lunch and dinner were all withing steps of each other. If you are looking for a "shopping" experience, this town is not for you, but if you are looking for a low key, relaxing, and beautiful place on Lake Como, Varenna is for you.Guest review byAnonymous

I chose a single room which was small, but perfect. Clean and comfortable. It is above a restaurant, but has a lift which was great for luggage. The restaurant had great food, including a really good breakfast. It was in the Varenna Square, which had music going, but it was rather lovely. And my window had a view of Lake Como. We loved everything, the atmosphere, the fantastic breakfast with personal attendance, the modern room in the annex was very spatious ond with beautiful lake view (a few steep steps stairs to aware for disabled people, but there are also rooms in the old main building). The hosts Viviana and Christian are lovely people and are helpful with information. The appartment has a nice and fully equipped kitchen, 2 beautiful bathrooms and 2 sleeping rooms, perfect for a family with kids A washing machine is also available in a separate utility room.
