Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. We paid for the meal option, to cover dinner, breakfast and a bento box for lunch while hiking, and the food was delicious. Our hosts looked after all our needs, including transportation in the morning a couple of kilometres up the road to Takijiri and the start of our trek on the Kumano Kodo. The room was spacious, and we heard no noise from other guests. The breakfast (both Japanese and Western) was really delicious. We could leave our luggage in the hotel, while we were hiking the Kumano Kodo, for a small fee, and that went without any problem.
