Staff is was very professional and helpful! Everything was new, clean and comfortable. Had great sleep. Great value! Breakfast was a small buffet but it was tasty and perfect for quick breakfast. Location is very near the station.

Super lovely host who very kindly helped return a key that we had accidentally kept from the night before in tanabe. His place was very clean, comfortable, and he provided a delicious breakfast and lunch for the kumano.

A quiet, peaceful little house set amongst rice fields in the village of Chikatsuyu. We arrived in the village a little earlier than expected and ran into the owner, Shino, in the street. The house is a short walk away from the mean street, set amongst rice fields. Small but comfortable, and being a small village, everything is close. Of note, it’s a 10 minute walk to some shops (with bakery and supermarket) and in town there is the excellent cafe run by Shino herself and some great coffee shops. We got the full meal package and Shino’s dinner was excellent and we had breakfast the next morning in her charming shop. The bento lunches provided were perfect for the trail.

The definition of a 10/10 vacation experience. Kumano Guesthouse provides the kind of effortless relaxation and welcome that only comes from careful intention and effort on the part of the hosts. Yutaka and Giovanni were welcoming and accommodating. The big surprise was the gourmet supper and break fast with all local ingredients including exceptional cheese from their goats. Interesting and fun fellow guests as well. We hope to find some reason to come back !

This property was amazing and the host Yuri was delightful! The public river onsen was OUTSTANDING. It was our favourite onsen in Japan and only a 2 minute walk away - would recommend cold river plunges! The lunches and dinners (we skipped breakfast due to early hike days) were exceptional and some of our favourite meals of the trip. Our room was spacious and comfortable and the massage chair in the lobby was amazing after a few hard days of hiking! Would stay here again and would recommend staying here instead of the other onsen locations nearby (Yunomine/Hongu).

    Staff was able to provide information clearly and was fluent in English. He was also very kind to pick us up from the train station for free. He also provided suggestions for sight seeing and restaurants. Highly recommend the accommodation due to the service and facilities.

    Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. I think we could have stayed a whole week if we weren't going on our trek.

    We stayed at this hotel before our Kumano Kodo trekking on the next day. The hotel is very closed to the Kii Tanabe Station and bus station, so it is very convenient to catch the early bus to Takajiri-oji to start the trekking. The room is clean and has laundry service (fees applied). We stayed at one of the rooms in early Summer which is the mosquito's season. We were bombarded by a few mosquitoes at night. Hence do remember to bring along the mosquito repellents when you travel to Kii-Tanabe during late Spring /early Summertime.

    Before I set off on my Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, I stayed one night at the Hotel Hanaya. It is perfectly located, right near the bus and train station. So you don't have to go far. I didn't enjoy breakfast, but there is a 7/11 at the train station. The internet was stable, the room was big enough and clean. The whole hotel is a bit old-fashioned, but that didn't bother me. Check-in is only from 4 p.m., please note.

    Ike is such a nice host, helpful and knowing everything about the Kumano Kodo, and can answer all questions related with it. The breakfast and the bendo box is delicious. The dinner is greater with home brewed Plum wine, oishii. The room is cozy and although shared shower, it is big and clean, better shower than some hotels. Highly recommended

    The host is very kind and picked us up from Kii Tanabe and dropped us off at the start of the Kumano Kodo trail. The house itself is also beautiful, clean and well taken care of. The value for money is really excellent. The host really puts in proper love and effort!

    Amazing new place in Tanabe. Rooms are huge and incredibly comfortable. Tea and coffee provided on the house also very close to train station and Kumano Kodo information center.
