Polhena If you are looking for a tourist only beach, this isn't it. Mostly locals and that's why it was so lovely. Very small beach with no waves. A dead reef but some fish and turtles. Local people there were really kind. Which is what made this place special. Matare is part of a chain of cities along the southernmost coast of Sri Lanka. It has beaches for expert surfers as well as beginners and those who just want to be by the beach. The beaches along the coast are all sparkling translucent and enticing. Has quite a lot of Sri Lanka's history, forts, but courts, and old paved streets, as I said, a great if you make a little effort to explore. It is 5 minutes walk to Polhena beach and 10 minutes to Mirissa beach. It has a relaxing atmosphere. Rooms and all area are really clean. At night you sleep with Sri Lankan animal sounds.
