Peaceful surroundings in the countryside.

All we needed was just relax and take same rest in the quiet place after long way on motorbike and we received exactly this. Staff was very nice, professional, and the food was good. There is a swimming pool and beautiful garden where you can see a lot of animals. Room is also very well equipped.

This small-scale eco retreat near Thanamalwila turned out to be an unexpected gem. Dilan and Dhanushka, together with the quiet but essential Shashi, run this place with great dedication and heartfelt hospitality. They're in the process of turning it into a sustainable and locally rooted resort — and you can feel that in every detail. We stayed in a wooden cabin above a pond, beautifully lit at night with candles in coconut shells and little lamps in the trees. The bathroom has no roof above the shower, so you're literally showering under the open sky. A little frog on the toilet seat? Comes with the territory. It’s wonderfully peaceful here. From the veranda, you can spot birds, squirrels, monitor lizards and frogs. At night, it’s dark and quiet, with only the soft glow of oil lamps. When our son got tired after dinner, a mattress was already waiting under the tree by the dining tables — so we could stay and chat a little longer while he drifted off to sleep. By car, we visited a nearby river where monkeys leapt between the trees above and tiny fish gently nibbled at our feet — swimming in the current was a treat. No other people around. Just nature. A real highlight was the visit to the local market with Dilan, followed by a cooking class from Dhanushka’s mother. Nothing staged — just cooking and tasting together, the way it's done at home. During a relaxed BBQ under the trees, someone brought out a guitar and music followed naturally — a perfect example of Sri Lankan warmth and spontaneity. The safari to the quieter part of Yala (blocks V and VI) was stunning. We saw elephants, a leopard, crocodiles and countless birds — all without the crowds you’ll find elsewhere. A short walk across the estate took us along numerous elephant trails to a large rock with sweeping views of the landscape and the setting sun.

stayed one night on the way to Ella. everything was fine, a nice room, a beautiful sunny courtyard with monkeys, in the morning the owner fed me breakfast. In other words, I had a great time. the owner has recently taken up the villa, he works in a car service nearby, behind the house there are fields and nature

The best experience ever! The tents are absolutely gorgeous and the detail incredible. We had a very warm welcome from our Senior Naturalist, Prince Solomon. He greeted us with cold refreshing drinks and explained the schedule. We very much enjoyed the safari and saw lots of different birds and wild elephants. Once back at camp, we were met with hot drinks and sandwiches before being guided back to our tents with hot water to soak our feet waiting. They had lit all the candles in the tent and incense and it felt so cosy and special. We then had dinner under the stars with a bonfire with the most delicious food and unlimited beer/wine. Both lunch and dinner were 5 courses and so good! Our waiter was also very attentive, very polite and made us feel welcome. In the morning we had another delicious meal; breakfast. Solomon also gave us the opportunity to go on a nature walk but we didn’t have time, but worth doing if you can. All the staff were brilliant and made us feel like royalty! I would be back in a heart beat. Thank you Prince Solomon and team.

The best stay of our 1 month trip to Sri Lanka. I highly recommend Amba Kola Udawalawe. We spent 3 days and never wanted to leave. Rooms and the common area are artistically designed. Super friendly host and excellent home cooked meals. Spotlessly clean rooms and peaceful surroundings. Do yourself a favour to stay at this beautiful property to make your trip to Udawalawe memorable. Special thanks to Amma to provide us an authentic Sri Lankan food and drinks. We definitely would like to come back and stay here for longer time.

The staff were lovely. The pool was the most clean and nicest we have been in. It was very peaceful. The rooms were very modern and clean. They were very attentive and able to make changes to meals for dietary reasons. Would recommend 10/10.

A sweet and lovely place to stay. Amazing woodwork combined with creativity makes it a place you want to stay. Some things are still in progress (new rooms), but when finished it will be an overall amazing hotel. Accommodation was generous and all facilities very clean. The staff and manager where very friendly and helpful in any way. Thanks to the team! 😃 Pool Billard table (very nice idea) and lounge area was very cool and wie liked the aquariums. You can have a proper drink at the bar as well. 😁
