The town is charming, the restaurants serving local cuisine are delightful and the summer climate is amazing. 15 degrees at night and 22 or so during the day with no humidity. There are many activities in or near San Cristobal and we enjoyed the local parks at Arcotete and Grutas del Mamut. Our dogs were able to run off-leash and explore the forest. We spent a month at a Spanish language school (San Cris) which was a wonderful place to improve our language skills.Guest review byDonaldMexico - 10.0

This city is beautiful and great for walking. The sidewalks are not as difficult to navigate as in some other cities, but you still need to be careful and have grippy shoes for when it rains. The weather was lovely and cool; a nice break for us Texans in the month of June. Gorgeous city. Felt very local as well as having touristy ammenities. Unfortunately the trip to the Chiflon falls also includes a detour to lakes. The first is great, the second, not worth the time and effort. If you're adventuresom, go to the falls with collectivos instead. Chamula is really special. I went to market day at 8 in the morning and was the only foreigner. Like time travelling! The leftist cinema in town was really unique! The Na Bolom cultural museum was fascinating. Definitely worth visiting and spending a few days. Lots of really nice local eateries and the Mayan Textile Museum is worth visiting. Just wandering through the town is interesting. MUY Gallery also good. If you are thinking of doing a bus tour to Zona Arqueologica Palenque (via Cascadas de Agua Azul and Cascada Misol Ha) and you suffer from motion sickness think carefully. It is an 18+ hour day (4am ~ 10:30pm) with most of that in the bus on winding mountain roads and many speed bumps (a device used in Mexico to slow traffic down in towns). A beautiful local town full of the vibes and energy that the mix of local peoples and outsiders brings. We found some online reviews mystifying with their huge exuberance about quite ordinary offerings but overall felt that the standard of both food and drink high. People were friendly and helpful; however, I would bring enough "change-pesos" especially if you need to get anything from the store they kept saying they didnt have change. Super clean, every day the room was spotless and smelled like flowers. We also got two water bottles every day for free! The shower was great with hot water and good pressure (something that is not often given in Mexico). There is also a TV with all American channels.
