Las Penitas is only 2 hours from Managua and 20 mins from lovely Leon. It’s totally relaxing, with some great places to eat for every budget, surf schools and mangroves to explore. The fishermen bringing their boats in up the river are a great sight to see at high tide. Food was great, Tony was an amazing server and took care of us like we were family. On the down side, hotel needs a lot of improvement. Huge unspoilt beach with mangroves nearby. Very impressive. The sea is only suitable for surfing and playing in the waves though- not swimming. Best in morning and evening when it cools down. The mangrove and turtle reserve is a must do tour or kayak journey. It’s beautiful, rare and the work they do with the turtles is very important. The baby turtle release is amazing. The food at la Barca de Oro restaurant is great and there are lots of veggies and vegan options.Guest review bylindaUnited Kingdom
