    A unique town to visit. A beautiful town centre with many restaurants and bars to choose from. Many historic buildings to view and admire. I visited the nearby Koninkje Luchtmacht vliegbasis where a major NATO exercise was taking place.

    We enjoyed Leeuwarden for the 2 days we were there, a...

    We enjoyed Leeuwarden for the 2 days we were there, a delightful small town with a mixture of old and modern. We particularly enjoyed the canal trip - do the longer 1.5 hour one; it's only 8 Euro. Of course we did the Fries and ceramics museums, a little disappointing as although everything was very well presented, they make the most of what they have, there weren't that many exhibits. It didn't cater very well to non Dutch speakers I thought. We didn't go up the wonky tower as it was a very hot day and we were tired, interesting to look at though. If you enjoy meat go to Loetjes restaurant next to the hotel, excellent ! Watch out for bicycles everywhere, they seem to have priority in Netherlands. FYI it is illegal to drink alcohol in public places.

    I didn't know what to expect but picked Leeuwarden as a central spot for exploring Friesland. It is a beautiful town that is the perfect size to get around easily. There was so much more to do here than I expected and could easily have stayed for a week or more without getting bored. It was easy to walk to great museums, restaurants and shopping. My children highly recommended the Nature Museum which was very interactive and good for children of all ages and adults too. We enjoyed shopping in the Blokhuispoort and taking to the artisans about their sustainability story. We stayed at the Post Plaza Hotel and highly recommend it. Next time, I will go in spring/summer/fall and rent a bike to explore even more. Very bike friendly city.

    The city is a perfect example of how to combine the old with the new. The architecture is very nice to observe, the people are friendly, there's a lot going on on the streets so it's never boring and there are also a lot of quiet places by the canals where you can get a moment of rest. There are not a lot of things that would be specifically aimed at tourists which adds a very nice wibe as you get the sense that the atmosphere is very genuine.

    Friesland is a beautiful area of the Netherlands.

    Friesland is a beautiful area of the Netherlands. Leeuwarden itself is a busy tourist town with lots of things to see and lots of shops and restaurants. Like many of the surrounding villages (for example Franeker) it is full of old, historic buildings. The sea is not far away and you should definitely try a guided mud walk (wadlopen) when the tide is out. A few kilometers to the south of Leeuwarden you will find De Alde Feanen National Park. Rent a bike in Grou and cycle along one of the many marked cycle routes.

    I've only stayed two days for a conference, it wasn't sufficient to discover the town. From what I could experience, Leeuwarden is a pleasant place with historical sites. It's great for walking and biking, has a lot of restaurants for all the tastes. At the same time, everything is quite expensive, from accommodation to food.

    A really wonderful hotel, with a slogan, just a room, the rooms are beautiful decorated, in a stylish way. There is no lobby, and you get the keys via a link. A good breakfast is provided in the restaurant linked at the hotel, for a reasonable price with a lot of choices. There are lots of restaurants in the same street, and they are close to the centre of Leeuwarden.

    Lovely spacious modern room and bathroom. Even though the room was on the ground floor it was quiet from street noise. Enjoyed an easy check in with friendly staff. Bonus it is in the hustle and bustle of the Leeuwarden city so you can easily work to where ever you need. Sufficient on street parking made it easier for us to travel by car. Would stay again.

    Amazing experience! You can meet the friends from different countries. Also, the kitchen is convinent to cook by yourself. The location of this Hostel is near canal and the buliding style is very classic! If you visit Leeuwarden and want to live in Hostel. Alibi is a good choice!
