Whitianga is a very picturesque place.
Whitianga is a very picturesque place. There’s a beautiful long beach, green countryside and mountains surrounding the area. The town is a decent size with everything you might need. There are many restaurants and cafes to choose from and the real fruit ice cream is superb. The staff member at the information centre is brilliant. A little ferry takes you to another area but beware of the hike to the top of the hill- it gets very challenging! Whitianga is a great place to visit.
Whitianga is a great place to visit. If you are traveling from Auckland, the trip is not too far by car but traveling from as far as Wellington might be too far if you're only going to be there for a short period of time. Whitianga is a great central location for the Coromandel coast. Nice town atmosphere with plenty of good places to eat and drink. Cathy O'Malley's was warm and welcoming in very bad weather. Within 40 mins drive of Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach, it offers plenty of accommodation and services that the other locations don't. Easy ferry access to the Cooks Beach side, and the bonus of Lost Spring thermal spa and restaurant for romantic relaxation and dining. Great location which we'll visit again. We had a large 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment with a washer and dryer as well as a large balcony that offered water views over the beach and to the harbour.
