FAQs about hotels in Gdańsk

Charming Architecture And a Breath of History

Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything a city of this scale needs: a fascinating history, great architecture and a friendly atmosphere!

Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town, Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down the Communist rule in Poland initiating the end of the Cold War era.

Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the near-complete destruction during the World War II. The colourful town houses of the Old Town can be admired by boat on the Motlawa River or enjoyed while strolling along the popular Long Street and Long Market.

While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and you make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!

Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com offers a variety of accommodation near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city centre.

Beautiful place with a lot of history.

Beautiful place with a lot of history. Loved the architecture and old church and cathedral. The place seems to be a real party city at the weekend. But during the week and on Friday it is quite mellow. The public transport seems hit and miss.

Gdańsk is a truly charming city with beautiful houses on every corner of the historic center. Beyond exploring the old town and enjoying the many cozy cafés and restaurants with excellent food, it is definitely worth visiting the European Solidarity Centre to learn more about the city’s important history. A trip to the seaside is also a great idea – you can easily get there by tram.

Beautiful city full of great restaurants with amazing food. The Chleb and Wino restaurant is a must. Gdansk is a city with a very reach history, many historic places to visit. Also it’s very enjoyable to take a short cruise to a beautiful town of Sopot for a day for a Baltic Sea experience.

    What a gorgeous city!

What a gorgeous city! Plenty of interesting historical sites, museums and an amazing choice of restaurants. I found the most meaningful sites to be the World War II museum and the amber altar at St. Briget's Cathedral. Make sure to purchase the audio guide at the museum. I've recently had hip surgery and walked A LOT but there are plenty of beautiful parks and benches if I needed to rest.

    Wonderful city. Interesting.

Wonderful city. Interesting. The old part of the city is paved and is inconvenient if you have a small child and a stroller. There are very good playgrounds in shopping malls where children can play. You can find many restaurants with tasty food and wonderful sweets. Just the polish food is delicious.

    Beautiful and interesting city.

Beautiful and interesting city. Of all museums/exhibitions visited, the Solidarity Museum was my favourite. Travel by public transport was excellent and very cheap. The bus was free for over 65s, who also got a discount on the trains (just need to carry ID to prove your age, no need for faffing about with Senior Railcard). It’s also very clean, including the public transport.

Spacious room, clean, great beds, TV with Netflix and YouTube, coffee machine, washing machine. Excellent location, just few metres away from Old Town with many grocery stores, restaurants and attractions all within walking distance. It's a trendy hotel and pretty large but still gives off a rustic feel. A bit outside the busy old town in an area of redevelopment. So you won't feel like a mass tourist. Do walk the ramparts that are around the corner, the lesser-known, most beautiful views of Gdansk, albeit city nature. Proper spa and massage therapists.

Outstanding hotel - modern with a boutique feel we would not hesitate to come back. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout the hotel. The best meal of our trip was in the hotel restaurant and the best cocktail in the Ink Bar upstairs. The spa facilities were excellent too and we both had an amazing massage.

Hotel location is the best, right in the heart of the old town. From my window I was able to see Town Hall tower and hear the bells from nearby churches every hour. (Hotel provided earplugs, so one can sleep undisturbed during the night). I also liked the breakfast selection.
