Portugal’s Christian Jewel
Situated in northern Portugal, Braga is the country’s oldest city and a beautiful destination with rich culinary tradition and stunning architecture. This modern city is home to the iconic Bom Jesus Sanctuary, impressive churches and monuments.
Standing 400 metres above the seal level, Bom Jesus do Monte is an imposing sanctuary with a remarkable stairway decorated with statues. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most photographed churches in Portugal.
The Archbishop's Palace consists of three buildings with different styles: Gothic, Mannerist and Baroque. Rich in history, the 12th-century Cathedral of Braga is a building with a Romanesque facade and the tombs of important personalities.
Braga features a variety of interesting museums like Biscainhos Museum and Treasure Museum of the Sé de Braga. Visitors can wander around the vibrant Praça da Republica or relax in one of the traditional cafes.

A small city north of Porto, with a lot of history and attractions. Plenty of shops, cafes, old churches, and restaurants, but the bar scene is lacking. There are many senior citizens here, since it's one of the more affordable and lovable parts of Portugal. Braga is a charming small city.

Very historic town. Very laid back atmosphere with plenty of places to eat. Transport cheap, people friendly touristy type of town with plenty to see and do. Weather hot and sunny. A delightful town, easy to walk round and interesting sights...
A delightful town, easy to walk round and interesting sights. The staff at the tourist information centre were exceptionally helpful and advised us what to see and do and how to get to places we wanted. They spoke excellent English. The highlight of our stay was a visit to the Museu Nogueira Da Silva with its gorgeous garden and nice little coffee shop. The chap who welcomed us at the Museu was very friendly and spoke good English. We also went out to Bom Jesus the World Heritage site, an easy bus ride away. Braga is a great destination with incredible history and architecture. Staying in the centre is a must where you can just walk out the door to all these wonderful buildings of history whilst surrounded by fabulous shops and dining. A wonderful place to visit. The location is right next to the railway station. (But noise from the railway was no issue, because there are not so many trains.)
