    This small city was an absolute gem - stunning ancient squares and streets filled with lovely cafes and restaurants, altogether not as touristy as it could have been and very easy to walk around. We dined in two of the main squares with traditional Portuguese cuisine and inexpensive wines, and lovely ice cream outlets. We took the cablecar up the hillside and walked back down. We visited the Ducal palace (fantastic reconstruction) and castle (ruin). We could easily have spent a week here relaxing and taking in the atmosphere. And very easy to reach from Oporto.

    It's a small, quaint little town.

    It's a small, quaint little town. Everyone is quite friendly. It's also well curated. A lot of the citizens are multilingual which is quite amazing. I only stayed 1 1/2 day and arrived on a Tuesday evening and I'd recommend for ppl that are staying very shortly to maybe arrive on a Wednesday since quite a few restaurants are closed Monday & Tuesday

    Enjoyed walking around Guimarães, the castle is simple, and Palace of the Duques was a nice site to see, the city center was where I would have like to spend more time. It looks different than most of the cities I have seen in Portugal.

    Lovely town with great atmostsphere.

    Lovely town with great atmostsphere. May is ideal time -getting busier. perfectly located for trips to Porto and Duoro Valley but also a great city to stay in. Walked everywhere Parque Penha good to see Best restaurant in Rua de Joao de Melo

    Easy to walk everywhere in historic centre. Pinquim restaurant was superb; just on edge of historic centre but fabulous traditional food and wine; not expensive. Staff were so friendly and good English spoken.

    We arrived on the day of a festival to celebrate fire...

    We arrived on the day of a festival to celebrate fire fighters, and we're presented with a free concert in a square in the town which was magical. The town is small enough to explore easily on foot. Everyone we met was very helpful and friendly. Went up on the cable car with magnificent views, and found a peaceful park where we had a picnic lunch surrounded by magnificent granite boulders.

    The staff were all excellent (thank you Leonor). We arranged to have bikes delivered to the hotel before we arrived. They stored the bikes and held on to the boxes for a week while we were on tour. On our return they helped us box up the bikes again, ready for collection. Service over and above. The location was good, less than 10 minutes stroll from the historic quarter. And Guimaraes is a lovely city. We couldn’t have picked a better start and finish location.

    The apartment was clean, comfortable and spacious with everything needed for our stay. While not actually in Guimaraes we used Uber (Bolt also available) to get to the town for just 5 Euros each way, which gave us a welcome break from driving. Although on quite a busy road, inside the apartment was peaceful and quiet. The host was easy to communicate with and excellent in answering any questions we had. All in all this was a very good place to stay.

    Room very spacious, very well appointed, appeared brand new and spotlessly clean. Staff at front desk very warm and welcoming. A tremendous value. Very good breakfast delivered to room. The location is very good; yes, on a busy street, but easy walking distance to the old part of the city and shops. From the moment we entered the hotel, everything exceeded our expectations.

    Very good surprise in a prime location of Guimarães! Walking distance of a big shopping mall and tons of restaurants. The historical city center is also quite close and walkable. Probably the best 2-star hotel we've stayed at. Deserves more.

    Very nice hotel. Majority of the staff very helpful. Breakfast average but enough choice of hot, cold and sweet bits to fill up. Could not use outdoor pool due to terrible weather but spa was nice enough.
