Got to Moncorvo visit the church and eat at restaurant Lagar. Next day go to Foz do Sabor and eat "peixinhos do rio" at a local restaurant. Then go to Horta da Vilarica, try to find out where the Padaria is and buy the local bread - out of this world. In Foz Coa you need to see the prehistoric rock-art sites in the Coa Valley - you have never seen anything like that. The region is famous for the prehistorick art on rocks depicting animals 20,000 or more years ago, but there is also a profusion of medieval castles around and cultural sites. For lovers of good wine it is also an excellent visit, the north style of food is marvellous and all is very quiet. Some roads are a bit narrow if you want to go to remote pleces... I suggest to visit with time and go visit the small places, enjoy the quiet, the occasional wild animals, and take some time to hear the local people's stories.Guest review byWanderingwonderPortugal - 10.0

I travelled by train from Porto to Pocinho and Vila Nova de Foz Coa is the only place I found to stay before travelling by coach to Guarda. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by the facilities it had to offer and its location in beautiful countryside. The landscape of the area is breathtaking. I definitely would have invited more time there. The museum was beautifully curated. We didn't get out to the rock carvings but with more time would have. This town was shuttered by the time we arrived, no people around. No obvious overnight accommodations. Finally found the only available food at a pizzeria where they were so nice and accommodating and the food was great. In the daytime we visited the museum then did the archeological tour. Just the right size.
Just the right size. One of the main attractions is the archeological park with the stone etchings. The stone buildings throughout are also very nice. The only downside is that if you don’t have a car, there is no public transportation so the taxi fares add up, but it is worth it.Guest review byJoelUnited States

There are several restaurants a few minutes away (walking distance) either towards the centre or away from it, making the hotel more central than one would think. If you are looking for a beautiful area this is not what you will get, but the hotel is really 200 m from the start of the centre, and the area is not ugly either. It is just "normal". We had an early start to walk the Iron Path, so Rita left us some things so we could breakfast before leaving. Amazing location, surrounded by vineyards, with excellent views up and down the Douro river.
