Vila Velha de Ródão is a small village near Castelo Branco, with a splendid natural landscape (Portas de Ródão ), bathed by the Tagus River. Very friendly and affable people and good traditional food. If you have the chance, take a boat trip on the Tagus River and enjoy the beauty of the landscape. Our main goal was the boat trip on the Tagus, which we did in spite of the rainy weather. That was really amazing. Vila Portuguesa owns the hotel, the restaurant by the river and the boats for the boat tours. Everything was just perfect: a very tasty lunch at the restaurant, a fantastic boat trip along the river and a nice and comfortable night at the hotel, with a very good breakfast with river view. The bedroom was fine for a 3 star hotel. I recommend that you book parking in advance, as there aren't many places. We ended up parking by the side of the road, no problem. Vila Valha de Rodao is situated on the Tagus River and has a pleasant riverside marina area with a couple of restaurants, boat hire facilities and a Bateau Mouche for romantic cruises. It is very well situated in the centre of Portugal giving easy access to the beautiful Sierra de Estrella, the upper Tagus valley and towns such as Coimbra with it's major Roman heritage are within easy reach. It is, however a bit of an industrial centre for the production of paper and, worse, cellulose. The conversion of wood pulp to cellulose is a smelly process and when the wind is wrong, the town gets the pong! There are limited choices for eating, but the two we found were perfectly acceptable, one by the river and one in the town proper.Guest review byJASPERTHEDOGUnited Kingdom
