The apartment was clean, comfortable and spacious with everything needed for our stay. While not actually in Guimaraes we used Uber (Bolt also available) to get to the town for just 5 Euros each way, which gave us a welcome break from driving. Although on quite a busy road, inside the apartment was peaceful and quiet. The host was easy to communicate with and excellent in answering any questions we had. All in all this was a very good place to stay.

Our visit started with the owner, Jose, greeting us in person, followed by a tour of the magnificent grounds, and the Baroque (?) garden with its amazing camellia trees, accompanied by a concise history of Portugal and 13 generations of his family's ties to the property dating back to 1512. (Did I get that right, Jose?) His hospitality was beyond welcoming and generous. We were a party of 6 and all of us had different types of rooms and we all loved our respective rooms. He also provided us excellent restaurant recommendations (34 and Formigas), both of which were superb. Our trip ended with a personal heartfelt send-off that made us sad to leave. Jose is a true gentleman in every sense of the word, and I tip my hat to him for his devotion to his guests, to maintaining the spectacular grounds (and we didn't even get to enjoy the swimming pool due to the time of our visit), and his deep and abiding love for his country and Guimaraes in particular.

A peaceful place surrounded by nature. It’s perfect for a romantic getaway by the river, but also ideal for families looking to spend quality time with their children. The breakfast was varied and delicious, and the staff were all very friendly. We were especially touched that even a small towel was prepared for our little baby in the room.
