This is a beautiful upmarket town, unspoiled by high rise buildings and bad planning decisions. This was the third time we had visited and it has never disappointed. Quaint houses and shops, clean streets and wonderful beaches. Plenty of on street parking and friendly people. Very pretty location with lots of boutique shops and variety of restaurants serving great food. Carmel beach is very beautiful but not for swimming in the sea due to the strong undercurrents. A beautiful but expensive city. The vibe is wine tasting, jewelry, art, designer clothing and restaurants with a beach nearby. The quality is good everywhere, with some exceptional locations. Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula provide one of California's most impressive gems. The natural beauty of the coast is unique, abundant and memorable. But be forewarned: Once upon a time, Carmel-by-the-Sea was the very picture of "rustic." That charm has morphed into what my partner has described, regarding downtown, as "an amusement park for Silicon Valley brahmins." Carmel is one of my favorite places to visit. It has many things to offer. The natural beauty of the environment is a dog-friendly environment. The beach is a beautiful place to watch the sunset, but I recommend you bring a jacket. Very nicely decorated and furnished. The location is perfect - just about 10-15 mins’ drive from Monterey’s attractions. The 17-mile Drive is a short drive away as well. Less than 10 mins drive away heading south is the Point Lobos State Natural Reserve where you can do easy hikes overlooking the California coast. The Carmel Plaza with stores and restaurants is a good 5-minute walk away. The hotel is simple and clean, we just had queen size beds, there wasn't too much space in the bed.
