We were en route else where but we wished we could have spent more time in Hood River, even though we'd been there for a brief visit once before. Seems to be many good places to eat for a town that size and the opportunity to dine looking out over the river was a special treat after a long day's drive. There are endless hiking opportunities, for every hiking ability, all around the area. In summer there are many other activities on the river. Everyone we encountered was bright and friendly. Vibrant atmosphere and lots of great eateries, breweries, etc. Also close to great hiking, scenic drives and other attractions like the Bonneville Dam. If you like the outdoors, this is a fantastic place.
If you like the outdoors, this is a fantastic place. So many nearby outdoor things to do. Take a walk on the Pipeline trail which is on top of a real pipeline, along the river, in the woods. Go down to the waterfront area where there are breweries, coffee shops and a great atmosphere. The people are very friendly. Hood River is a good central location for exploring the Columbia gorge. One day we spent exploring the falls and visited crown point Vista House. The next day we visited the Western antique airplane and automobile museum and hung around downtown for coffee. Lots of good restaurants to choose from. Lots of little shops for shopping. It's a beautiful situation because you have Mount Hood to the South and Mount Adams to the north on the Washington side. We love coming to Hood River anytime of the year.
