Not one upscale or even average restaurant.

Not one upscale or even average restaurant. Plenty of fast food and low end restaurant/bars that serve decent sandwiches and burgers. Try to find a place that has cloth napkins and you are out of luck. Probably had that 100 years ago. On the other hand, if you don't care about dining, there's plenty of historic buildings to see. The plaza area has a few interesting shops and is walk-able. Didn't stay long enough to see a lot of spots so maybe we missed something in town. You could use it as a base to visit things 20 or 30 miles away. It rained hard while we were there, but that was actually nice, because we need the rain.

Loved the green in a NM location.

Loved the green in a NM location. Las Vegas is recognized as a "tree city". I found good food and enjoyed walking around the Victorian house neighborhood. Storrie Lake is also a sweet little spot very close to town.

The elevator did not work and we had a very heavy luggage to carry up the 23 stairs. The first thing I did when I went into the room was use the restroom. As I sat there I could see a soap and a wash rag left on the tub. As I looked down I could see possible urine spots on the floor. I went down to the front desk to tell them and they told me, "the new person proably didn't clean the bathroom very well". I was so grossed out. I booked last minute, so I knew I was not going to get a refund. We were given another room that was further from the stairs and smaller. The bed was okay. It only had sheets, but luckily I brought a blanket. There should be a reduced rate for no elevator. I was told the elevator had not been working for about a month.

My wife spent part of her youth there.

My wife spent part of her youth there. We returned after 50 years to see what had changed. The Highland university had expanded significantly but the remainder of the city was still pretty much the same according to the wife.

Look on door broken.

Look on door broken. Bad smell in room Paper sign on front door check in area said needed to boil water for 10 minutes before using. No way to do that in a hotel room. Facility very run down. Need to close it, renovate and reopen.

Overall Las Vegas NM is charming, clean, scenic and historic. Quite a few souvenir type stores. The X marks the spot cafe downtown I highly recommend. Great food, tastes good and an ample amount. Snow capped mountains to the west.

As a huge fan of the Fred Harvey hotels I was absolutely flabbergasted by the restoration that is being done. Our room was enormous and filled with gorgeous antiques. I felt like I had gone back into history and was a treasured guest being sheltered by Fred Harvey himself. The front desk staff is awesome, the common rooms are welcoming and the whole experience of staying here is definitely the highlight of my trip!

Good hotel buffet breakfast. Great linens, towels, and other room amenities. We had not stayed in a Best Western before and now will look for same when we travel.
