If you love the beauty of the desert, respect and admire Navajo culture, and want to be surrounded by iconic visions of the Southwest, Monument Valley is a bucket list trip for sure. I would go back with family, perhaps booking a horseback trip in the park next time.

We arrived late afternoon and looked around Gould's Resort. The museum was interesting and food was quite good other than the country western music, which is not our style. We took the Sunrise Tour through Gould's Resort and it was excellent. The formations in Monument Valley are fabulous. The movie and Navajo history are also very interesting.

I'm not normally into landscapes, but this was an incredible experience. The facades of the natural monuments have weathered into pictorial dioramas. It's astonishing the variety of visual angles available to the eye at different times of the day as the sun rises and sets.

Two nights was perfect amount of time for 3.5 - 5.5 hour tours, plus time for hiking, the museum, movies, and the arts & crafts shop. That was a pleasant surprise; low on kitsch, but high on exceptional, local Navajo weavings, beadwork, and jewelry.

A lifetime experience. Local guide a must do! Great photo opportunities. A magical place. Goulding’s have great meals. Hint: don’t drive a sedan around the valley you’ll risk getting stuck or wrecking sump , take a guide or have a 4x4.

Monument Valley and the surrounding area is a must visit if...
Monument Valley and the surrounding area is a must visit if one wants to view a spectacular and iconic landscape of the American West (featured in countless John Ford westerns and other films) with one's own eyes. The area is entirely within, and the park itself managed by, the Navajo Nation, and they do so very professionally. The entrance fee to the densest 'monument' area is nominal, and if one does not want to deal with crowds, many amazing geological features can be seen without entering the park proper. The surrounding area has been kept free of commercial clutter and is a tranquil and starkly beautiful place to visit.
I can especially recommend a trip to Goulding's Lodge, even if one is not staying there, for the trading post museum and other services, as well as the fantastic views. While Monument Valley might not be the best choice for small children or excitement craving teens, if awe-inspiring landscapes are your thing it is well worth a visit!

We only booked this hotel for the view. Before our stay we did a tour of Monument Valley from the View hotel which is really close to the Mittens. We had a look around that hotel and thought it looked nice and worried that we booked a more standard hotel, we were VERY wrong! Goulding's Lodge is a fantastic hotel, the rooms were superb, way above what we were expecting. We just wished that we booked for longer as we only had the one night. This hotel is essential, we'll definitely come back.

The Goulding's Lodge is a fantastic place to stay when visiting Monument Valley. The view from our room was amazing, the room was clean and better looking than on the photos. There is a Stagecoach restaurant where we had some great meals too (Navajo burger - I recommend to share it as it was massive!). The overall location was great, not as expensive as The View Hotel but close enough to the Monuments. We also took the Sunset tour which was great!

Goulding’s lodge is steeped in history and is located as close as it gets to the Monument Valley entrance. It has a great restaurant serving locally inspired food including the delicious Navajo burrito. The Museum profiling the life of Harry and Mike Goulding and how they brought Hollywood to Monument Valley was fascinating.

Great location with a good view of monument valley from the balcony (rm217). Restaurant food was really good even though people said it was expensive, we did not agree. Good comfy bed and bathroom facilities. Pricey but what do you expect in Monument Valley - worth it!
