Quiet nice town. We ate at a seaside tourist restaurant. It had great fresh fish and we could walk there on the beach. The least favorite was the haggling and begging at the docks before and after the seal boat ride. This town was our first stop in South Africa and it really represented the divide between wealth and poor. We stayed in Hout Bay for three nights.
We stayed in Hout Bay for three nights. It's a small fishermen town, very sleepy/peaceful. Yet, there are enough restaurants and bars to find your taste. We were two girls travelling alone, but we felt very safe there. You can easily do some hikes from there, take a walk at Hout Bay Beach, visit Cape Good Hope or Chapmans Peak. Other than that, there is not very much to do. So pick Hout Bay if you want a safe and peaceful stay near Cape Town!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

We have been coming to Hout Bay for 20+ years. It has been consistently good AND much improved since the fish factory and its occasional stench has shut down. The beach is great. There are plenty of eateries with a range of prices, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. However we were unable to find a "special" place to eat. The Lookout is great for oysters and the fish and chips. We always hire a car. We know the Western Cape and have no problem getting around. Friends ask why we visit The Cape every year to which we reply - "the scenery, the food, the wine, we can watch the Premier League and The Six Nations, they drive on the left and they know how to make tea."Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Beautifully furnished with an open view bathroom (that can be closed if wanted) but it is wonderful to take in the view on the beach from there as well. The balcony overlooks the beach and the mountains and is a lovely relaxing space to sit and have a sundowner. The restaurant has a great menu and one can sit on the veranda having dinner or lunch.
